About this file
This document contains responses to questions from a Request for Information regarding Correct Water Infiltration Project 610-20-102. The project involves replacing aluminum cornice trim and gutter boxes on nine buildings at the Northern IN VA Medical Center in Marion, Indiana. Specifically, new aluminum cornices will be installed on Buildings 1 through 6 and 15 through 17. Associated blocking will also be replaced to support the new gutter boxes and cornice trim. Drawings will be amended to clarify locations. Buildings 15, 16 and 17 will have their existing metal gutter boxes replaced along with a peel and seal liner. Building 124 will replace just its sheet metal lining. The peel and seal liner will cover within the gutter and up the cornice profile but not down the outside faces. A cold applied silicone coating is not an acceptable substitute for the specified peel and seal product.

RFI Responses – Correct Water Infiltration Project 610-20-102 Question 1: Please confirm which buildings are getting new aluminum pre-formed cornice trim.
All cornices on B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B15, B16, and B17 will be replaced with new aluminum cornices. Drawings will be issued in an Amendment to clarify on roof plans and elevations.
Question 2: Please confirm in detail what is meant by associated blocking when replacing the gutter box and cornice trim.
“Associated blocking” is referring to any wood required to support the installation of the gutter box and cornice.
Question 3: What style profile is to be used for new cornice trim?
This may vary based on installation means and methods chosen by the Contractor.
Question 4: Buildings 15,16,17, and 124 do not state to replace the gutter box metal. Please confirm if this is accurate. They currently state peel and seal liner only except bldg 124 which states gutter metal only.
Note #3 on sheets AE207, AE208, and AE209 shows the existing metal box gutter is being replaced at buildings 15, 16, and 17. Building 124 has a stone cornice that will remain but will need to replace the sheet metal lining. Drawings will be revised to show a peel and seal lining over a new metal lining at Building 124.
Question 5: Please confirm if the peel and seal liner covers 100% of the new metal gutter box or certain locations/sides.
Peel and seal lining will cover within the gutter, and the horizontal surface to the farthest outside corner of the cornice profile. The peel and seal lining will not drop down the outside vertical faces of the cornice.
Question 6: Instead of peel and seal liner on top of the new gutter metal, can a cold applied silicone coating be applied/approved?
A cold applied silicone coating is not an accepted substitution for the peel and seal product.
