QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
1. Question: 8/4/21 ‐ In regards to the drawings for the subject project, it looks like Drawing “AD200 Demolition Elevations” is missing from the set, seems to be that Drawing “A200 Building Elevations” is in the set twice, page 26 & 35 of the PDF package.
Answer: See revised set with deleted duplicate A200 and new sheet AD200.
2. Question: 8/4/21
A. Sheet EY101 references ES105 for Access Control Details and Schedule. However, the drawing set does not have a sheet ES105. Please provide that drawing sheet.
Response: The sheet number ES105 is a typo. Should reference sheet EY301 which is in the set.
B. Sheet A200, shows on the North Elevation Keynotes “1” and “2.” However, the legend explanation do not appear to be correct for what is shown. Please clarify what these two notes should indicate.
Response: See revised A200 removing notes. See updated sheet A200.
C. Does the exterior hoist (by the exterior concrete stairs to the basement) remain?
Response: Demo – note 10 AD101
D. What is underneath the roof? Is on the shingled roof plywood sheathing underneath the shingles? Doe the flat roof have metal decking underneath the tar and gravel?
Response: See updated sheet AD103 indicated materials locations.
E. The legend on sheet A111, states that #5 is not being used. However, there is a #5 being used for Room 125 (Break Room). Please clarify that note.
Response: Revise to note 6 – see updated sheet A111.
F. Page 4 of the Solicitation, lists the scope of work for Bid Item 3 (deduct Alternate Bid Item) as omitting new storage structure north of Building 25. Please confirm that this refers to the pre‐engineering metal structure with canopy and racks.
Response: Correct
G. Page 4 of the Solicitation, lists the scope of work for Bid Item 3 (deduct Alternate Bid Item) as omitting the pavilion paving and landscaping. While the drawings show landscaping, there appears to be no pavilion and paving (except for a section that is labeled as “Concrete sidewalk”). Pleas confirm that this refers only to the landscaping and paving.
Response: Pavilion refers to the landscape/concrete paved island shown on 1/L100 and corresponding area on C‐sheets and ES102. There is no pavilion structure or paving other than required to patch the parking lot as shown on the drawings if this work is omitted.
H. Sheet A100 shows (and Sheet A903 lists) a Mixing table. Please provide specs for this item.
Response: Omit mixing table.
I. Sheet A903 shows Tables Contractor furnished and install (also listed on the Equipment Schedule). Please provide specifications for these tables.
Response:
Basis of design JSN K1910 16 ga. 304 polished stainless‐steel table Top reinforced with welded on hat channel 1 ½” 180degree rolled edges front and rear 1 ¼” diameter legs
J. Sheet A101, Note 15, lists an exhaust hood over the welding bench. Please confirm that this item is contractor provided and installed.
Response: Revise note 15 ‐ see updated sheet A101.
3. Question: 8/11/21
A. On drawing MH602, note 1 under the water meter schedule, calls for electromagnetic flow meters. Spec section 23 09 23 – 34 section D calls for an insertion type meter. Could you please clarify which meter is preferred?
Response: Electromagnetic flow meter is acceptable.
4. Questions 8/13/21
A. Is FAR 52.229‐3 Federal, State, and Local Taxes applicable to this project?
Response: Project is tax exempt
B. Drawing A602 calls out for Blast Resistant Aluminum Window system. This does not seem to be consistent with other components of this building. Is this what the VA desires on these windows? This adds a significant cost to these window systems.
Response: No windows are blast resistant. The glazing is laminated to resist the possible damage to the interior. This could impact glass anchorage and window framing and will be reviewed during the submittal phase. The project is required to follow the VA Physical Security and Resiliency Design Manual. These openings are required to meet those requirements. The existing openings are lest stringent than the new addition therefore have different glazing details and connection details in the walls.
See updated drawings eliminating blast phrasing and revising windows to 4 ½” or 6” aluminum storefront.
Laminated glazing remains and loading requirements for glazing remains as shown on the drawings.
C. Glass type IL#1 calls out “Blast resistant at new building addition only”. However, the window type 1 calls out for blast resistant framing – and these windows are NOT limited to the new addition. So it appears the drawings are calling for blast resistant frames, and NOT blast resistant glass. Please review and verify/confirm what components need to be blast resistant.
Response: See response above.
D. I am reviewing the roller window shades for the Chillicothe project, trying to determine the dimensions. I wanted to clarify if the shades on window type W9 are to go on both sections of windows or if they are to go on the bottom section only, as it is a manual shade. Please advise.
Response: One shade covering top section, spandrel and bottom section.
E. Page A602 – Window Types – Windows W5 & W6 ‐ do the louvers have to meet a blast‐ resistant rating?
Response: Louvers are not blast proof. 14 Gauge per updated details – to be provided as part of the door frame.
F. Page A510 – Detail 4 – Door 003 Transom & Head Detail – This door shows a new blast‐ resistant curtain wall frame and a hollow metal door. The door schedule calls for a hollow metal frame and hollow metal door. Please clarify.
Response: See revised section on 4/A5h10. Entire frame is hollow metal – to be 14 ga. Per detail.
G. Doors 100 & 113 have the same configuration, no detail though, shown on page A601 – frame types 3, 4, 5. Can this be clarified?
Response: See revised section on 4/A310. Entire frame is hollow metal – to be 14 ga. Per detail.
5. Questions 08/20/21:
A. Is the Honeywell N4 server WEBs or ComfortPoint?
a. If the N4 server is WEBs, what version is it? Is the owner expecting any upgrades to the N4 server?
Response: The controls system is Niagara AX ComfortPoint. The owner is NOT expecting any upgrades to the server under this project.
B. Do you know why there is a BACnet IP gateway between the JACE and N4 server?
With this being a Tridium front end, the JACE should be connected running CAT6 and pulled in via the Niagara Network.
a. Are the JACEs being imported as a BACnet device?
Response: There isn’t a N4 server and it is unclear how this question pertains to the scope of work; however, there could be JACEs being imported as BACnet devices due to the Niagara AX ComfortPoint system.
C. Is the demolition of the existing controls on the Temperature Controls Contractor (TCC)?
a. If so, will these need to be preserved and returned to the owner or can they be thrown away?
Response: If not used in the new system – it can be thrown away.
D. Is there a control diagram, points list, integration, etc… for the TCC to control the Fume Extractor?
Response: No. Fume hood extractor comes with its own controller and doesn’t need integrated into BAS.
E. The points lists shows hardwire points for the VFDs. Will the TCC also need to integrate to the VFDs via BACnet?
Response: Specifications are written for BACnet controlers to be utilized. Points list shows what items are preferred for function of the VFD’s. Consult the VA with BACnet object list when available to determine if additional points shall be integrated.
F. We typically see discharge air temperature sensors on the terminal units but this is not shown on the controls diagram or points list. Do we need to provide a discharge air temperature sensor?
Response: Sequence’s do not call for one.
G. For the ductless split system BAS integration – will this be a BACnet integration or do we just need to monitor room temperature?
Response: Monitor room temperature and current switch on ACCU‐1.
H. On sheet MP101 there is mention of Heat Trace. Who provides and installs the Heat Trace?
Response: Heat Tracing is covered under 23 21 13
I. The VFD responsibility matrix lists 23 09 23 (TCC) but it is also listed under the equipment specs. Who is responsible for providing and installing the VFDs on equipment (AHU, pumps, etc…)?
Response: Follow 23 09 23 matrix.
J. On the controls diagrams and points list there is no mention of smoke detectors. Will smoke detectors need to be interlocked on the necessary equipment (AHUs, ERUs, etc…)?
Response: Refer to electrical plans Smoke detectors. But smoke detectors are required on the supply per NFPA 90A not return as indicated on plans.
K. Page A602 – Window Types – Windows W5 & W6
a. Will the louvers shown be provided and installed by the mechanical contractor?
b. Also, do the louvers have to meet a blast‐resistant rating?
Response: See above
L. Page A510 – Detail 4 – Door 003 Transom & Head Detail
a. This door shows a new blast‐resistant curtain wall frame and a hollow metal door. The door schedule calls for a hollow metal frame and hollow metal door.
b. Doors 100 & 113 have the same configuration, no detail though, shown on page
A601 – frame types 3, 4, 5.
i. Can this be clarified?
ii. Can we include blast‐resistant aluminum doors with the curtain wall framing or can it be changed to all hollow metal?
Response: See above
