About this file

This document is a detailed domestic water service replacement inventory for multiple buildings at Lake Baldwin VA Medical Center. The plan involves replacing existing water services for Buildings 501, 3126, 3128, 3132, 3133, and 3134, with specific requirements for each building:

For each building, the project involves removing existing water services, valves, and boxes, and replacing them with new polyethylene (PE) pipes ranging from 1" to 2" in diameter. The replacement will connect to existing mains using new connectors and reconnect to building plumbing. Most buildings have galvanized or copper services transitioning to different materials, and none are patient-care buildings. Surface restoration varies between green space, bituminous pavement, and HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt), with the contractor responsible for minimizing surface disturbance and coordinating shutdowns with VA staff. The project aims to replace potentially lead service lines and upgrade water infrastructure across multiple non-patient care buildings at the medical center.

Building 501 Shipping and Receiving - Domestic Water Service Replacement

The domestic water service is copper at the exit point of the building. A test pit was performed to verify the entire service is copper. However, the service was determined to transition to galvanized outside the building. We are recommending a full replacement. It is not known if this service was ever downstream of a lead service line.

This building is not a patient-care building and will not need to remain online during replacement. The proposed line will be placed in the same location as the existing service to minimize surface disturbance. Contractor is responsible for coordinating the shut down with VA staff.

Surface restoration is mainly green space.
