| 1.2 | Project Title, Number and Location: |
| Project Title: | Replace Boiler Plant Water Main |
Project Number: 512A5-25-002
1.3 Scope of Work
In the event that the primary source of domestic water to the Boiler Plant and Chiller Plant is required to be shut-off, a secondary water main is required to maintain a domestic water source. Provide all labor, supervision, travel, equipment, tools, materials, inspection/testing services, and legal disposal of waste materials to install a new water main to the Boiler Plant and Chiller Plant at the Perry Point VA Medical Center. Additionally, cap and abandon in-place the existing water main and backflow preventer within the Chiller Plant.
Project Intent
· Provide locked chain-link fencing as required to prevent unauthorized access to work site hazards. Coordinate material laydown area, equipment storage, and work site layout with COR.
· Survey and mark all existing subsurface utility locations prior to digging.
· Coordinate temporary utility plan and campus utility shutdowns (at least 2 weeks in advance) with the COR and VA Maintenance and Operations staff.
· Tap into adjacent combined system water main running parallel to Avenue D. Water supply to the Perry Point VAMC is provided via an onsite water treatment and pumping facility.
· Excavate access pits as required to expose existing 8-inch water pipe main along Avenue D to install new piping lateral to the Boiler/Chiller Plant.
· Cut-in and install a new 8” x 6” reducing tee into existing water main. Provide bedding and concrete thrust block.
· Install new piping stub, fused MJ Fittings, MJ Adapters w/ DI Back-Up rings & nuts & bolts, and new 6-inch Resilient Seat Gate Valve with 2” operating nut. Valve shall be manufactured in accordance with AWWA Standard C515. Provide bedding for new valve assembly. Connect to new water lateral piping. Install new valve box and cap as required to match finish grade.
· Provide and install approximately 400 linear feet of new AWWA C906 6-inch DIPS, fused, DR 11 (200 psi), HDPE water supply piping and associated fittings, color Black with Blue Stripe, between the existing 8-inch water main and pipe bend location required to transition to the Boiler/Chiller Plant. New HDPE shall be affixed with locating tracer tape. Minimum bury depth shall be no less than 4-feet below finish grade. See drawings for layout plan. Contractor shall verify actual length and exact configuration in field.
· Provide and install approximately 40 linear feet of new 6-inch, ductile iron water supply piping and associated connection fittings (flanged or grooved), between the pipe bend required to transition to the Boiler/Chiller Plant. Connect to new HPDE lateral pipe. Contractor shall verify actual length and exact configuration in field. See drawings for layout plan.
· Core-drill existing concrete foundation for new piping penetration. Install new ductile iron water pipe with rubber link-seals on each side of foundation penetration. Coordinate size of penetration to fit applicable link seal.
· Install ductile iron water supply piping to a point no less than 1 feet within the building interior to which new service is to continue and make connections thereto. Provide 150# ANSI B16.5 flange connection with EPDM gasket and bolt set at end of supply pipe once it enters building for connection to new water supply piping.
· Where new 6-inch water main enters building, install approximately 400 linear feet of new 6-inch, stainless steel, ASTM A312, schedule 10, insulated water supply piping and associated appurtenances (valves, fittings, and gauges) as depicted on the design drawings. New water supply piping shall be installed along ceiling of building, utilizing any existing pipe hangers where possible. Contractor shall verify actual length and exact configuration in field.
· At the 4-inch portion of the 6” x 4” tee, install approximately 160 linear feet of new 4-inch, copper, Type K, water supply piping and associated appurtenances (double backflow preventors, valves, fittings, and gauges) as indicated on the design drawings. The basis of design for the double backflow preventers is the Watts 957-RP model or approved equal. Contractor shall verify actual length and exact configuration in field.
· Provide and install two laterals off of the new 4-inch water supply piping as indicated on the design drawing:
