Submitted Questions & Corresponding Answers
Answers shown in red text
1. Is Steris responsible for the controls (demo and reconnection) or is the general contractor responsible?
Yes, Steris is responsible for disconnecting the electrical whip from old cart washer and connecting to new cart washer at approximate location of connection point.
2. The scope of work calls for the removal of existing plumbing to 5’ above the current unit. At the site visit it was observed there was not 5’ of clearance above the existing wash rack. Should the contractor remove the existing utilities as high as possible? Will this be sufficient?
Yes, remove to highest point possible up to 5’ above existing cart washer
3. Can the VA provide as-built drawings of the plumbing and mechanical in the area of the wash rack?
Refer to attachment
4. Are the stainless-steel plate forms called for in the scope to be load bearing? If not, what is their intention? Can any additional information be provided on the material composition of the plate forms (Thickness, material composition, etc.) ?
Yes the plates need to be load bearing. Load bearing plates are primarily used for flat surface area which is needed for the machine to sit on. A quarter inch thickness will suffice.
5. Will the vendor/government be providing the contractor with the heat exchanger, steam trap, pressure relief, water hammer arrestor, drier and required mechanical equipment for the operation of the wash rack? If not, can the vendor supply the contractor with a list of required equipment prior to the bid?
If it is part of the machine that was purchased it will be installed if it is not it would have to be purchased or reconnected to what is currently installed.
6. Will all of the ducts be required to be stainless steel?
No, the duct is not required to be stainless steel. The installation of a dedicated corrosion-proof and watertight duct rated to an operating temperature of 210 degrees F to the exterior of the building, sloping back toward the washer and free of dead legs is required.
7. If all of the duct is stainless steel is there a requirement that it be sealed?
Yes, duct shall be watertight.
8. What assistance will be offered by the Steris Company? Please define the start-up, setting of equipment, supply of any specialty parts such as the high-pressure Sanitary hoses (white./tri clamp) and any other Steris scopes.
Steris will handle taking out the old washer and installing the new one. They will disconnect utilities, move the old machine to a pickup spot, and if Steris is disposing of it, they’ll arrange for pickup or scrapping. For the new washer, Steris will uncrate it, set it up, put it together, test it, make any adjustments, and show staff how to use it.
Start-up: Steris will test the machine after it’s installed to make sure it works correctly.
Setting of equipment: They will place the washer where it needs to go, put the parts together, and get it ready for use.
Specialty parts: SOW does not call for anu specialty parts
Other scopes: Steris will provide labor for installation, basic materials for setup, testing, and a demonstration.
9. On page 6 of the Solicitation PDF, it states “The Vendor shall furnish all materials, equipment, supervision, and personnel necessary to accomplish the service request as indicated within the scope of work. Work includes but is not limited to trades required for professional support services to provide for the entire campus.” What is the underlined sentence in reference to?
