RFI’S for Loading Dock Canopy:

RFI 1: Statement of Work, page 5, Item #2 indicates the existing specialty metal panel ceiling system is to remain. Please confirm the ceiling panels are to be removed and reinstalled as required for the installation of new sprinkler piping.

VA RESPONSE: The existing metal ceiling information is provided in this amendment as an attachment. Contractor should assume a minimum of 50 LF of metal ceiling panels may need to be replaced during new dry pipe sprinkler system installation. It is the responsibility of the contractor to maintain the integrity of the existing metal ceiling system, to minimize any damage to the existing ceiling, and to replace any/all damaged ceiling panels, and/or entire sections of ceiling system that are damaged during roof deck replacement and for all work associated with demolition and installation of new dry pipe sprinkler system.

RFI 2: Statement of Work, page 5, Item #9 indicates the existing deteriorated metal deck is to be replaced. Please advise a quantity for all bidders to include in their bid proposal.

VA/AE RESPONSE: Please references drawing AD101 DEMO WORK note #12

RFI 3: Statement of Work, page 5, Item #10 indicates canopy structural steel work. Please clarify the scope of structural steel work at the canopy, especially the tie back anchors.

VA RESPONSE: All structural work required is noted in solicitation drawings including drawings AD101, detail 5 and Demo Work note 12, and drawing AE 102 detail K. Contractor is responsible for reviewing information provided in solicitation drawings and bid accordingly.

RFI 4: Statement of Work, page 5, indicates a ‘Fall Protection Qualified Person’ is to be included. Please clarify requirements/ training of said individual. Is this a separate person from the site super? Do they need to be on site full-time? Can the site superintendent act as such?

VA RESPONSE: Yes. The Fall Protection/Qualified Person can be the onsite Project Site Supervisor, who is required to have OSHA 30 certification.

RFI 5: Regarding Alternate #1, loading dock coating, please advise a Basis of Design manufacturer and system. There are countless resinous systems with varying thicknesses, installation methods, and costs involved.

VA RESPONSE: ALL BIDDING CONTRACTORS MUST INCLUDE A $50,000.00 ALLOWANCE FOR THE ALTERNATE #1 NON-SLIP COATING ON THE LOADING DOCK PLATFORM. VA TO DETERMINE AN ACCEPTABLE NON-SLIP COATING AFTER AWARD. THIS ALLOWANCE AMOUNT IS A REASONABLE ANTICIPATION OF COSTS FOR THIS WORK.

RFI 6: Regarding Alternate #2, Please clarify and define the scope of work. If a scope of work can not be clearly defined, we request an Allowance be directed for all bidders to include to allow the VA time to define their needs and scope. Note the existing elevation change is almost 4”, and a ‘resinous’ system as referred to in the scope can not be built up more than ¼” We expect some sort of cementicious sloped ramp would need to be installed. Based on cursory review, it does not appear ADA min. slope of 1:12 is possible without removal of portions of the existing high platform areas.

VA RESPONSE: In order to simplify the required work for Alternate #2, please see below response and clarification regarding scope:

ALTERNATE #2 SCOPE: The warehouse area currently has an area of significant pitch in the vicinity of the loading dock areas. It is the intention of this specific bid alternate to level the current pitched area in the center of the warehouse and relocate same approximately 10 linear feet towards the rear wall of the warehouse in order to substantially decrease the existing dangerous slope.

At a distance of approximately 160 inches from the “interior” side of the exterior wall at loading dock area, the contractor shall establish a line which runs parallel to the exterior wall and extends 30 linear feet from a starting point indicated by a 4” vertical lip, extending toward the left-side wall by the scale area. This line serves at the point at which the existing concrete floor shall be shaved or demolished sufficiently as may be required to re-pour a LEVEL floor and continues rearward for a total of 10 linear feet. The square footage of the affected area to be demolished and re-poured is 300 square feet. A newly poured floor of concrete shall be level and set at the established height of the existing concrete floor by the loading dock, as established by the saw-cut existing concrete surface. The new floor shall remain level for the width of the entire pour at 30 linear feet and shall remain perfectly level for an overall depth of 6 linear feet. At the 6’ mark, the pour will begin to thicken, and shall pitch upward for the remaining 4 linear feet to the height of the existing floor at the storage area.

Strength of concrete shall be a minimum of 6000 PSI and shall include reinforcing bars as may be required. Minimum, thickness at loading dock side shall be 6” and shall taper to an eventual thickness of approximately 8”, or as may be required to achieve the desired thickness and height which matches the surface height of the existing floor at the storage side of the warehouse without requiring a step or excessive slope at warehouse entrance.

NOTE: ALL BIDDING CONTRACTORS MUST INCLUDE AN ALLOWANCE AMOUNT OF $75,000.00 FOR ALTERNATE 2 WORK.

RFI #7. Spec section 01 00 00, para 1.3B states ALTERNATE NO.1: _In Lieu of BUILT-UP ROOF SYSTEM PROVIDE TPO ROOFING SYSTEM PER SPECIFICATION 07 54 23. ---- This conflicts with the Alternate no.1 which is listed in the bid pricing sheet. VA/AE RESPONSE: Please references drawing AD101 DEMO WORK note #12

RFI #10: Drawing AD101 detail 5 shows shoring post at existing angle struts, but the detail 1 canopy roof demo plan does not identify the locations of these angle struts neither does any key notes, so Please identify on canopy roof demo plan locations of these angle struts.

VA/AE RESPONSE: Please reference drawing AE 101 for angle strut locations.

RFI #11: Dwg GI102 general project condition note no. 20 states contractor shall establish all necessary fall protection systems in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR subpart m 1926.502. additionally, the contractor, including any subcontractors that will be performing the work on the roof, shall have successfully been trained and certified under the OSHA 30 training. --- Note no. 21 states contractor shall fabricate and install guardrail system as noted on sheets AE101 & SF101 prior to performing any work. If new metal ceiling is required, then please specify the make and manufacturer and details of suspended ceiling grid with drawing as it may have to be matched with existing.

VA RESPONSE: The existing metal ceiling information is provided in this amendment as an attachment. Contractor should assume a minimum of 50 LF of metal ceiling panels may have to be replaced in order to demo and install the new dry pipe sprinkler system. It is the responsibility of the contractor to maintain the integrity of the existing metal ceiling system and to replace only what will affect the sprinkler work.

RFI #14: Dwg SF101 general structural note no. 2.8 has notes for Hot-Dip galvanizing. --- Please clarify if all the new steel guardrail work and structural steel work in the project requires hot-dipped galvanizing or painting work.

VA/AE RESPONSE: As stated in note: ALL new steel UNO that is exposed to exterior elements shall be hot dipped galvanized…

RFI #15: Dwg SF101 details 2, 3 and 4 indicates new plate welded to the beam. – Please confirm this is an existing continuous beam and it is hidden above the metal ceiling.
