About this file

This document includes an amendment to a federal solicitation and the original solicitation. The amendment modifies the solicitation for repair of existing access drives and sidewalks at the Syracuse VA Medical Center in Syracuse, New York. The amendment incorporates additional sidewalk work, including removing and replacing 700 square feet of concrete sidewalk at the northwest corner of a parking garage and 300 square feet of sidewalk at the lower west entrance, along with curb and drainage structure resets. It also requires contractor employees to be fit tested for respirator use and provide documentation of such testing. The original solicitation seeks offers for repair of access drives and sidewalks in accordance with provided drawings, specifications, and scope of work. The project value is between $500,000 and $1,000,000. Offers are due by June 23, 2020 with a pre-bid site visit on June 16, 2020. 0002- Change Curb Ramp 1C Elevations for Curb

In Figure 1, above, the highlighted slopes exceed the maximum sidewalk cross slope design maximum of 1.5%. The slope is unavoidable due to the slope of the roadway. At the time of our survey, the curbing in this area was in acceptable condition. Removing and replacing the approximately 20 linear foot of curbing and 45 square feet of pavement restoration, the 5.0% slope could be revised to slope the toward the roadway to keep runoff in the roadway. The current design could result in runoff entering the sidewalk area.

0001- Change Safety Requirements Section 01-35-26 page 16 Section 1-11-B-5 to read

Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to include Contractor Employees to be Respirator Fit Tested. Respirator Fit Testing – All Contractor Employees shall be Fit Tested for Respirator use and shall provide documentation to the VA as such.

0003 - Change Grade Elevations for Curb 1E and Ramp 1E

In Figure 3, above, the highlighted slope is out of compliance. The curbing in that area was in good shape and only the sidewalk needed replacement. The existing curbing slopes were matched. To have the slope comply to 7.5% maximum, approximately 16 linear foot of curbing and 35 square feet of pavement restoration would need to be included in the scope.

0004- Change Grade Elevations for Curb 2C and Ramp

In Figure 6, above, the highlighted slopes are out of compliance. The curbing in that area was in good shape and only the sidewalk needed replacement. The existing curbing slopes were matched. The cross slope is dictated by the driveway slope and therefore does not meet the 1.5% cross slope. We looked at removing the curbing to the intersection (approximately 22 feet) with the sidewalk along the parking to the emergency room. As shown in Figure 7 below, the highlighted slopes are reduced but remain out of compliance.
