About this file

This document contains responses to questions regarding a solicitation for roof replacement projects at the Morgue and Building 35A at the West Haven Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The solicitation seeks to replace the EPDM roof on Building 35A with tapered insulation to address drainage issues. For the Morgue roof, the work includes replacing non-penetrating pipe supports with new rubber supports, repainting the safety rail yellow, and incorporating the asphalt shingle roof into the contract to match the existing color. The responses clarify that no tapered insulation or reworking of curbs is required for Building 35A. For the Morgue roof, blocking is only to be reworked for fan curbs, and the design documents have addressed potential conflicts between new insulation heights and wall/door flashings.

Question: 1 - Building 35A Roof, Tapered Insulation

Drawing A2.1 details do not show tapered insulation. Please confirm this is required per the

Tapered Plan Drawing A2.2.

Response: There is no Tapered insulation on the Building 35A Roof. It is EPDM glued down on plywood.

Question: 2 - Building 35A Roof, Existing Curbs

Drawing 1/A2.1 Curb Mounted Unit Flashing Detail indicates re-working existing curbs.

Please confirm all curbs are to remain and that the new Tapered insulation height will be acceptable due to lower flashing heights.

Response: There is no insulation. If the curb is damaged, then it will need to be replaced.

Question: 3 - Building 35A Roof, Existing Downspouts and Connections

Drawing 4/A2.1 Base Flashing at Thru-Wall Scupper Detail calls for “3’ Gutter beneath each scupper”. Existing downspouts are connected within a concealed soffit. Will re-use of existing downspouts and connections be acceptable?

Response: Replace downspouts and gutter.

Question: 4 - Building 35A Roof, Core Samples

Core samples available for this roof?

Response: No core samples are available.

Question: 5 - Morgue Roof, Pipe Supports

Drawing A1.0 Demolition note D15.5 calls for pipe supports to be per Drawing 7/A2.1. This detail calls for penetrating-type pipe supports. Existing pipe supports are non-penetrating.

Are non-penetrating pipe supports acceptable? Can existing pipe supports be re-used if in good condition?

Response: Install new rubber pipe supports.

Question: 6 - Morgue Roof, New Anchored Roof Equipment Blocking

Drawing 4/A2.1 New Anchored Roof Equipment Blocking detail calls for “Rework existing roof blocking”. What is the extent of existing roof blocking? Is this detail required for all sleepers as shown on Drawing A1.0?

Response: Leave alone unless it is a fan curb.

Question: 7 - Morgue Roof, Safety Rail

Will the non-penetrating safety rail be re-painted Yellow?

Response: Yes, repaint the safety rail yellow.

Question: 8 - Morgue Roof, Asphalt Shingle Roof

Please confirm the asphalt shingle roof is not in the scope of work.

Response: Include shingle roof into the contract and match existing color.

Question: 9 - Morgue Roof, Insulation Height. Existing wall flashing and door threshold heights may be in conflict with the new Tapered insulation height, particularly at the access door. Please confirm this has been identified and addressed in the design documents and that no conflict exists.

Response: No conflict exists and replace in kind.
