About this file

This is a technical drawings and specifications document for emissions control catalytic converters supplied by Hug Engineering AG for the City of Tallahassee's seven Wartsila engines. The document contains detailed engineering drawings, parts lists, and assembly specifications for two primary converter models: the EM400 housing used for five 50SG engines and the EM196 housing used for two 34SG engines. The converters are designed to house multiple honeycomb catalyst layers (SCR, ROM, OXI, and spare layers) for reducing nitrogen oxides and oxidizing carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, and formaldehyde. Key specifications include thermal expansion tolerances at 450°C of approximately one inch, insulation requirements of approximately 180mm thickness with waterproof outdoor capabilities, and factory acceptance testing (FAT) prior to shipment. The document provides comprehensive parts lists with material specifications (including stainless steel 1.4404, carbon steel variants, and glass fiber reinforcement), dimensional measurements in both metric and imperial units, and revision histories documenting design modifications through November 2017.

The document includes detailed safety data sheets for the three catalyst types: SCR (RFV catalyst), ROM catalyst mixture, and OXI (oxidation catalyst), each specifying composition, hazard classifications, handling procedures, and disposal requirements. All catalysts contain titanium oxide (TiO₂) as a primary component along with tungsten oxide, vanadium pentoxide, palladium, bentonite, and glass fiber. The materials are classified as harmful if swallowed (H302) and cause skin irritation (H315), requiring appropriate personal protective equipment including respiratory protection, gloves, and work clothing during handling. Extended connecting sleeves (drawing K-39809B) must be assembled at sensor and probe inlets using high-temperature molykote. Installation instructions specify that insulation support holes may only be drilled into U-profiles, not the converter mantle, with measuring ports requiring easy removal through insulation. All catalysts are treated as hazardous waste post-use under waste code 16 08 02, with the products being non-flammable, non-explosive, and requiring dry storage protected from environmental influences.
