About this file

This is a Selective Demolition for Electrical specification section (260505) for the CBI HVAC and Lighting Upgrade project (25-388). The scope of work includes removal and disposal of electrical equipment and materials, disconnection of electrical systems in walls, floors, and ceilings designated for removal, relocation and extension of existing installations to accommodate new construction, and removal of abandoned wiring, conduit, outlets, panelboards, distribution equipment, and luminaires. The work requires coordination with utility companies for service outages and maintenance of existing electrical, fire alarm, and telephone systems in service until new systems are complete and operational. The contractor must report any discrepancies between field conditions and demolition drawings to the Owner and Architect before beginning work, and must obtain Owner permission at least 24 hours in advance of any system disablement.

The specification requires compliance with Federal Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) regulations for removal and disposal of equipment and materials containing hazardous substances, including PCB-containing electrical equipment and lighting ballasts, and mercury-containing lamps and tubes. All demolition work must include repair of adjacent construction and finishes damaged during the process, extension of existing installations using compatible materials and methods, and maintenance of access to electrical installations that remain active. Materials and equipment for patching and extending work are specified in individual sections of the contract documents. No pricing information, award dates, contract term, set asides, or incumbent contractor information is provided in this specification section.
