About this file
This is a technical specification section for identification systems for plumbing piping and equipment as part of the 25-388 CBI HVAC and Lighting Upgrade project (GovTribe ID: e8e583de871c61616b873a4224748a3d), identified as Section 220553. The specification establishes requirements for nameplates, tags, pipe markers, and ceiling tacks used to identify plumbing components throughout the facility. All identification products must comply with ASME A13.1 standards for pipe identification schemes. The specification requires contractors to submit comprehensive identification schedules detailing equipment, piping, and valves; provide manufacturer catalog literature; include valve data formats with identification numbers, locations, functions, and model numbers; and maintain project record documents showing actual locations of tagged valves. Installation must follow manufacturer instructions and include proper surface preparation through degreasing and cleaning before application.
The specification identifies approved manufacturers for each product category, including Brimar Industries, Inc., Kolbi Pipe Marker Co., Seton Identification Products, Brady Corporation, Advanced Graphic Engraving, and Craftmark, with provisions allowing substitutions per Section 016000. Nameplates must feature white letters on black backgrounds with 1/4-inch letter height. Tags are available in flexible vinyl or metal brass construction (1-1/2 inch minimum diameter) with engraved markings. Pipe markers must comply with ASME A13.1 color schemes, specifically white text on green backgrounds for water, potable, cooling, and boiler feed services. Ceiling tacks are color-coded by system type: yellow for plumbing equipment, green for plumbing valves, and blue for heating/cooling valves. Underground markers require bright-colored ribbon tape minimum 6 inches wide and 4 mil thickness for direct burial applications.
