About this file
This is a technical specifications document for Section 232123 (Hydronic Pumps) as part of project 25-388 CBI HVAC and Lighting Upgrade. The specification establishes requirements for five pump categories: system-lubricated circulators, circulators, in-line pumps, end-suction pumps, and dual-drive pump systems. System-lubricated circulators must be horizontal shaft, single-stage units rated for 140 psi maximum working pressure and 230 degrees Fahrenheit maximum water temperature with cast iron casings and stainless steel impellers and shafts. Circulators are specified as horizontal shaft, single-stage pumps with oil-lubricated motors rated up to 125 psi discharge pressure. In-line pumps are closed-coupled, vertical units rated to 175 psi with cast iron casings and mechanical seals rated to 225 degrees Fahrenheit. End-suction pumps must be base-mounted, split-coupled units with oil-lubricated bearings and similar temperature ratings. Dual-drive pump systems consist of horizontal split case, base-mounted pumps with two motors operating at 1,750 rpm and 1,150 rpm with a NEMA OS 1 control cabinet. All pumps must comply with UL 778 minimum quality standards and meet NEMA MG 00001 electrical requirements.
Approved manufacturers for this specification include Armstrong Fluid Technology, Inc., Bell & Gossett (a Xylem Inc. brand), and Taco Comfort Solutions, with substitutions permitted under Section 016000. All pumps must operate within 25 percent of the midpoint of the published maximum efficiency curve and be non-overloading in parallel or individual operation. Installation requirements include alignment certification by qualified millwrights for base-mounted pumps, proper support piping to eliminate weight on pump casings, inclusion of shut-off valves and strainers on suction lines, check valves and balancing valves on discharge lines, and installation on concrete housekeeping bases with anchor bolts. Manufacturers must demonstrate minimum three years of documented experience in pump manufacture, assembly, and field performance. Variable frequency drives must comply with Section 230934 where applicable.
