About this file

This is a structural engineering design document prepared for a pylon sign installation at the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention Center, located at 1250 Miracle Strip Parkway SE, Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32548. The document, prepared by Mark Disosway, Professional Engineer (Florida License 53915), provides detailed structural calculations for support columns and foundation design for a two-column pylon sign structure. The engineering design addresses wind load calculations in accordance with ASCE 7-22 standards and Florida Building Code (FBC) 8th Edition Section 1609 requirements. The project utilizes a 180 mph ultimate wind speed with Risk Category III classification and Wind Exposure Category D. The design specifications include two 22-inch by 22-inch by 0.375-inch wall A500 46 ksi HSS steel columns centered and embedded in a foundation system. Multiple foundation options are presented, including drilled shaft foundations (4-foot diameter by 24-foot-9-inch deep or 5-foot diameter by 21-foot-2-inch deep), cube foundations (10-foot-10-inch cube), and spread foundation options (13-foot-9-inch long by 23-foot-6-inch wide by 4-foot-2-inch deep). The engineering is valid for one sign at this location only and specifically covers structural support columns and foundation design; the sign cabinet, electronics, cross supports, and attachments are excluded from this engineering seal and remain the responsibility of the sign manufacturer.

The structural design incorporates presumptive soil bearing capacity values of 150 psf per foot and 2000 psf for sand, silty sand, clayey sand, silty gravel, and clayey gravel soils. All materials must conform to specified ASTM standards, including ASTM A-36 structural steel, A-500 Grade B HSS tubing, ASTM F1554 Grade 36 anchor bolts, and 2500 psi concrete. The scope of work explicitly places design and installation responsibility on the sign owner, manufacturer, and installer to verify site conditions match stated wind speed, risk exposure, topography, and soil factors; to design and build the sign cabinet and face according to all applicable building, fire, UL, and zoning codes; and to request engineering revision if site conditions differ from those stated. AWS certification is required for all structural welders, and comprehensive material specifications address welding design, concrete placement, rebar requirements, and corrosion prevention. The document bears the digital signature and seal of Mark Disosway, PE, dated May 21, 2026, and includes contact information at 163 SW Midtown Place, Suite 103, Lake City, Florida 32025 (386-754-5419).
