About this file

This is a structural engineering design document prepared by Mark Disosway, Professional Engineer (Florida License 53915), for the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Tourism Development Division, a Department of Okaloosa County, for monument sign support structures at the Rigdon Center located at 1958 Lewis Turner Boulevard, Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32547. The engineering design addresses the structural requirements for two 16" x 16" x 0.375" wall A500 46 ksi HSS steel columns spaced 184 inches on center, designed to support a monument sign cabinet and withstand wind loads per Florida Building Code 8th Edition (2023), Section 1609, and ASCE 7-22 standards. The design encompasses three foundation options: drilled shaft foundations (48-inch diameter), cube foundations (8.9' cube), or spread foundations (22' wide x 10.5' long x 3.2' deep), all configured for 2500 psi concrete with appropriate embedment depths and reinforcement specifications. The sign is designed for a 170 mph ultimate wind speed, Risk Category III (Substantial Hazard), and Wind Exposure C conditions with a presumptive soil type of sand, silty sand, clayey sand, silty gravel, or clayey gravel with a bearing capacity of 2000 psf.

The engineering design is sealed and digitally signed by the professional engineer and is valid for one sign installation at the specified location. The scope of work is limited to the design of support columns and foundations only; the sign cabinet, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) cross supports, attachment details, and attachment to support columns are the responsibility of the sign manufacturer and are not included in this engineering seal. All construction materials must comply with specified ASTM standards, including anchor bolts (ASTM F1554 Grade 36), structural steel (ASTM A-36 or A-500), concrete (2500 psi minimum), and rebar (ASTM 615 Grade 60 or 40). All welding must be performed by AWS-certified welders using AWS D1.1 (steel) or D1.2 (aluminum) standards. The sign owner, manufacturer, and installer are responsible for verifying that actual site conditions match the stated wind speed, exposure, topographic, and soil factors and for designing and constructing the sign cabinet and all other components in compliance with applicable building, fire, UL, and zoning codes.
