About this file
This is a Frequently Asked Questions document related to a road milling and asphalt paving project for Macon-Bibb County. The project involves full-width milling and repaving of roadways with specific material specifications and work requirements. Key project parameters include work hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with approval available for special night work on downtown streets. The milling depth shall extend to full depth from curb lip to curb lip, or road edge to road edge on roads without curb and gutter, with final repaving required within one day of milling completion. Patching work involves milling to a maximum depth of four inches to remove cracking as needed, with a minimum width of one lane width. The asphalt specifications call for 12.55 mm mix at 1.5 inches thickness for patching and general application, and 9.5 mm Type 1 mix at 1.25 inches thickness for topping on most roads, with Fulton Mill Road receiving 1.5 inches of topping. Additional work includes clipping grass shoulders with mandatory removal of all clipped material from the site.
The project requires contractors to adjust or install risers for manholes and water valves as determined in the field, with both adjustment and riser installation methods available for bidding. Advance warning signs may be placed on tripods or post-mounted, and a shuttle buggy is permitted but not required during 12.5 mm placement. Compaction testing is not required for submission to Macon-Bibb County. Contractors are not required to mill and pave into driveways or to perform shoulder building, grassing, or installation of low/soft shoulder signs on roads without curb and gutter. The patching mix shall match the paving mix specifications for the project.
