About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for a fiber optic installation project at Newark Airport (SIR #25-19006839). The document addresses technical specifications and logistics for installing a Fiber Optic Transmitting System (FOTS), confirming that the project requires installation of a 24-strand single-mode fiber cable that is government-furnished material (GFM) and currently looped in manholes.
Key details include: work hours are typically 12:00am-5:00am subject to airport operations and runway closures; contractors must obtain Newark Airport badges and hire escorts at their expense; no pre-bid survey is possible due to access restrictions; the contractor is responsible for duct bank installation and pulling the GFM fiber cable, while the FAA will handle terminations; weekend work can be approved if needed; and bids are due by January 27, 2025. The project involves installation at two sites, with fiber originating from MH 10-24 at Site 1 and HH COM 13-28 at Site 2, with no splicing required at either location as the fiber cable is already looped and ready to be pulled once duct banks are installed.
