About this file
The document is a Basis of Design (BOD) for roof repairs at Building 1445 on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. The project involves demolishing the existing built-up roofing system and replacing it with a new modified bitumen roofing system approved by MCB Camp Lejeune. The scope includes replacing roof penetrations, equipment curbs, roof drains, emergency overflow scuppers, building expansion joints, and sheet metal copings. The building is classified as Type IIB non-combustible construction with Business (B) and Storage (S-1) occupancy classifications.
The design incorporates R-30 continuous insulation above the roof deck and follows multiple UFC (Unified Facilities Criteria) and building code standards, including IBC2018 and NFPA101. Structural design parameters include a Risk Category II, roof live load of 20PSF, ground snow load of 10psf, ultimate wind speed of 144mph, and seismic design category B. The mechanical and electrical scopes are limited to removing and reinstalling existing rooftop equipment to facilitate the new roofing system installation, with the intent of restoring all systems to full functionality.

SCOPE OF WORK
Demolition of the existing built-up roofing system and insulation at Building 1445. All roof areas are included in the scope of work. The design intent is to replace the existing roofing system with a new
MCB CL approved modified bitumen roofing system. Penetrations, rooftop equipment curbs, roof drains, emergency overflow scuppers and building expansion joints are included in the scope. Existing sheet metal copings will be replaced with new.
TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION
Type IIB non-combustible construction
OCCUPANCY CLASSIFICATIONS
Business (B) and Storage (S-1)
LIFE SAFETY CODE ANALYSIS
Life safety work is limited to fall protection at the roof hatch.
ACCESSIBILITY
Not applicable.
ARCHITECTURAL COMPATIBILITY
Limited. The modified bitumen roofing system will comply with the MCB Camp Lejeune (BEAP) Base
Exterior Architectural Plan, 2010. New sheet metal coping material and color will comply with the MCB
Camp Lejeune (BEAP) Base Exterior Architectural Plan, 2010.
EXTERIOR WALL SYSTEM
Not applicable.
ROOFING
Replacement of existing low built-up roofing system with a MCB CL approved modified bitumen roofing system. Existing structural slope.
Roof drainage is collected via roof drains and conveyed to underground storm water piping. Existing emergency overflow scupper locations will remain and receive new sheet metal sleeves and flashing.
THERMAL INSULATION
The roof assembly provides R-30 continuous insulation above the roof deck.
