About this file
This is Addendum No. 2 issued by the California Department of Water Resources for the Full Pipe Penetration Replacement Deferred Maintenance Program at Davis Sites 545 and 549, Specification No. 24-13, Contract No. C51674. The addendum, issued January 29, 2025, includes revisions to multiple specification sections including earthwork, reinforced concrete pipe installation, sealants, and cast iron slide gates. Key requirements include installation of 24-inch reinforced concrete pipe, 30-inch cast iron slide gates with associated hardware and testing requirements, and specific earthwork procedures including potholing near existing utilities and compaction requirements for levee embankments.
The addendum contains detailed technical specifications for materials and installation, including requirements that compacted levee embankment shall not be less than 95% per ASTM D698, and upper 12 inches of subgrade shall not be less than 97% compaction. The cast iron slide gates must be designed for 20 feet seating head and 5 feet unseating head, with daily operation frequency. Payment terms specify measurement by linear foot for reinforced concrete pipe and by actual count for slide gates and associated special tools/spare parts. The document requires field testing of gates through five complete cycles of opening and closing before acceptance.

Manual Type Hand Wheel Operated or Geared Crank Type
NOTES TO ABOVE TABLE:
The specified head is measured to the centerline of the gate.
2.05 NAMEPLATES
A. The slide gate shall be identified by an equipment nameplate. The nameplate shall be attached to the equipment by means of screws or rivets.
2.06 COATINGS
A. Slide gate and appurtenances shall be per AWWA C560.
B. No coating shall be required for stainless steel parts.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 FIELD ERECTION AND TESTS
A. The Contractor shall provide the services for installation, inspection, start-up assistance and testing of the slide gate assembly.
(Addn. No. 2, Pg. 21)
11281-8 G-24
B. Parts shall be secured in place with anchor bolts to prevent movement during grouting and shall be checked for true plumb prior to and during grouting. Parts shall be fitted to preclude scraping, binding, vibration, displacements or other evidence of misalignment. The gate, gate guides, stem, and stem guides shall be in place and adjusted before grouting.
C. After installation, the gate shall be operated through not less than five complete cycles of opening and closing, with gate operation stopped and started at three intermediate positions in each direction of travel.
Evidence of improper fit, misalignment, galling, overheating or other defects will be considered defective work.
PART 4 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
4.01 MEASUREMENT
A. Measurement for payment for the contract item Cast Iron Slide Gate will be by the actual count and will be the numbers of each placed in the work.
B. Measurement for payment for the contract item Cast Iron Slide Gate Special Tools and Spare Parts will be by actual count and will be the number of each set furnished to the Department.
4.02 PAYMENT
A. The contract prices will be paid for CAST IRON SLIDE GATE; and
CAST IRON SLIDE GATE SPECIAL TOOLS AND SPARE PARTS;
which prices shall include full compensation for all costs incurred under this section.
