About this file

This file is a Project Manual for the Elk River Trail New Headquarters Building for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WV DNR), located at 12 Buffalo Creek, Clay, WV 25043. The project manual, identified as Architect Project No. 22010 and dated July 25, 2024, is Volume II covering Division 22 (Plumbing) through Division 33 (Utilities). The project involves comprehensive building systems specifications including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, telecommunications, earthwork, exterior improvements, and utilities. The architectural firm is WYK Associates, Inc. (Clarksburg, WV), with consulting engineers including Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc., Studio on Stony Run PLLC, CAS Structural Engineering Inc., and Miller Engineering Inc. The specifications establish detailed requirements for all plumbing materials and methods, requiring conformance with the current International Mechanical Code and International Plumbing Code (2018 edition), applicable building codes, and industry best practices. Contractors must thoroughly review all documents and site conditions prior to bidding, with all substitute material requests submitted and approved before bidding through formal addendum procedures only.

The specifications detail extensive technical requirements for piping materials including copper tube for domestic water systems, PVC pipe for sanitary waste, cast iron for above-grade drainage, and cross-linked polyethylene for water distribution. All potable water components must comply with NSF 61 and NSF 372 standards for health effects and lead content limitations. Valve requirements include bronze ball valves for shut-off service, swing check valves, pressure reducing valves operating at 5 to 50 psi, and temperature and pressure relief valves certified to ASME standards. Installation specifications mandate piping support every 6.5 to 10 feet depending on pipe size, with proper hangers, unions, and dielectric connections for dissimilar metals. Insulation requirements specify flexible elastomeric cellular rubber materials with specific thicknesses ranging from 3/4 inch to 1-1/2 inches depending on pipe size and service temperature. The project requires identification of all piping systems using ASME A13.1 color-coded markers, pressure gauges with 4-1/2 inch diameter dials, vibration isolation mounts for equipment, and comprehensive field testing of all systems including pressure tests and disinfection of domestic water piping before service initiation.
