Lagoon Grading Plan Summary

This is a Lagoon Grading Plan document prepared by Bartlett & West for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) in connection with the SW Stockton Sanitary Sewer and Water Main Extension project in Stockton, Missouri. The plan details the closure and grading of an existing lagoon facility at the MoDOT maintenance site as part of the broader infrastructure improvement project. The grading work encompasses earthwork operations with estimated quantities of 787 cubic yards of cut and 722 cubic yards of fill, resulting in a net cut of 65 cubic yards. The plan specifies that lagoon closure work must be completed after collection system improvements are constructed and approved, with final grading to be achieved immediately prior to seeding and mulching. All earthwork and rock removal operations must comply with Specification Section 31 00 00, and existing riprap and rock fill encountered in the berms shall be buried on-site, except where located below proposed collection system improvements, storm sewers, or access drives. The contractor is required to remove all existing lagoon piping during closure work and maintain slope requirements not exceeding 5:1 with a minimum slope of 0.75 percent to ensure positive drainage from the lagoon closure site.

The plan acknowledges that calculated earthwork quantities are "raw" figures without consideration of shrinkage, swell factors, compaction, proposed piping, structures, topsoil, or unforeseen unsuitable materials. The contractor is permitted to adjust final grading within defined parameters to achieve a balanced site while maintaining unchanged perimeters and general flow paths. The document was sealed and certified by Kyle J. Landwehr, a Professional Engineer with the Missouri Board of Professional Engineers and Surveyors (Certificate of Authority No. 000167), on October 1, 2024, and is designated as drawing number C-101 in the project plan set. Any necessary clean fill must be sourced off-site at no additional cost to the owner, raked to remove aggregate material, and seeded and mulched to meet specification requirements.

NOTES:

1. LAGOON CLOSURE SHALL OCCUR AFTER COLLECTION SYSTEM

IMPROVEMENTS ARE CONSTRUCTED AND APPROVED.

LAGOON CLOSURE WORK MUST MEET ALL REQUIREMENTS OF

SPECIFICATION SECTION 31 23 20. ACHIEVE FINAL GRADES

IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO SEEDING AND MULCHING. SEE THE

SPECIFICATION SECTION 32 92 19 FOR REQUIREMENTS FOR

SEEDING AND MULCHING. GRADING WORK SHALL BE

COORDINATED WITH PROPER SEEDING SCHEDULES SO THAT

SEEDING AND MULCHING OCCURS IMMEDIATELY AFTER

FINAL GRADING.

2. ALL EARTHWORK, AND POTENTIAL ROCK REMOVAL SHALL

FOLLOW SPECIFICATION SECTION 31 00 00.

3. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ANY RIPRAP OR ROCK FILL THAT IS

BELOW PROPOSED COLLECTION SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS,

STORM SEWERS, OR ACCESS DRIVES, EXISTING RIPRAP AND

ANY ROCK FILL ENCOUNTERED IN THE BERMS SHALL BE

BURIED ON-SITE.

4. CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE ALL EXISTING LAGOON PIPING

WHEN COMPLETING THE LAGOON CLOSURE WORK.

5. FINISHED GRADING AS SHOWN IS ESTIMATED TO HAVE A

NET CUT. HOWEVER, THE QUANTITIES CALCULATED ARE

"RAW" QUANTITIES WITHOUT CONSIDERATION OF

SHRINKAGE AND SWELL FACTORS, COMPACTION, PROPOSED

PIPING AND STRUCTURES, TOPSOIL, OR ANY POSSIBLE

UNFORESEEN UNSUITABLE MATERIALS. IN ADDITION, THE

BOTTOM OF THE LAGOON CELLS WERE ESTIMATED AND MAY

BE DIFFERENT THAN WHAT IS SHOWN BY EXISTING

CONTOURS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE TOTAL

DEPTHS OF EACH CELL AND IS ALLOWED TO ADJUST THE

FINAL GRADING OF THE LAGOON CLOSURE AREAS TO ARRIVE

AT A BALANCED SITE WITHIN THE FOLLOWING PARAMETERS:

THE PERIMETERS OF THE LAGOON CLOSURE GRADING PLAN

SHALL REMAIN UNCHANGED FROM THIS PLAN SHEET, THE

SLOPES SHALL NOT EXCEED 5:1, AND THE GENERAL FLOW

PATHS FROM THE LAGOON SITES AFTER CLOSURE AND

GRADING WORK SHALL REMAIN UNCHANGED FROM THOSE

INDICATED BY THE NOTES STATING "PROVIDE POSITIVE

DRAINAGE FROM LAGOON CLOSURE SITE." SLOPE SHALL BE

.75% OR GREATER.

6. EARTHWORK QUANTITIES ARE RAW QUANTITIES WITHOUT

CONSIDERATION OF SHRINKAGE AND SWELL FACTORS,

COMPACTION, PROPOSED PIPING AND STRUCTURES,

TOPSOIL, OR ANY POSSIBLE UNFORESEEN UNSUITABLE

MATERIALS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BID ACCORDINGLY.

ANY NECESSARY CLEAN FILL SHALL BE TRANSPORTED FROM

OFF-SITE AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER, RAKED

TO REMOVE AGGREGATE MATERIAL, AND SEEDED AND

MULCHED TO MEET SPECIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS. CLEAN

FILL MUST MEET REQUIREMENTS OF EARTHWORK

SPECIFICATION.
