About this file
This is a technical information document detailing the Flight Information Display System (FIDS) production environment at Orlando International Airport (MCO), prepared in support of a seven-year contract solicitation issued by the Aviation Authority. The system encompasses comprehensive hardware infrastructure including 347 digital display controllers (DDC), 758 LCD monitors, and 126 LED panels distributed across 369 FIDS units, 71 BIDS units, 94 LIDS units, 148 GIDS units, 76 wayfinding displays, and 126 LED panels. The FIDS platform integrates multiple third-party systems including flight data feeds from major airlines (American, JetBlue, Delta, Frontier, Spirit, United, Southwest), weather interfaces, gate mapping systems, checkpoint wait time displays, and connections to the MCO website and Brightline train schedule information. The system operates across the North Terminal (Levels 1-3), South APM (Levels 1, 3, and 5), Terminal C (Levels 1-2, 4, and 6), and multiple airside locations encompassing Gates 1-129 and the FIS Customs Area. The contract, commencing June 1, 2026, requires the awarded contractor to design, configure, implement, operate, and maintain the FIDS platform utilizing existing components in conjunction with new equipment provided by the Aviation Authority, with capabilities to support component replacements and upgrades without service interruption.
The production environment is supported by four core servers including a Core FIDS Server, Flight Database Server, Reporting Server, and Test Server. User access is tiered across multiple departments and functions, including full system access for AOC personnel and supervisors, limited access for bag claim and customer experience operations, and read-only access for information booths and specific airline agents. The Aviation Authority seeks to explore current technology solutions, identify advantages and disadvantages of various technology approaches, and benchmark lessons learned from other major transportation hubs including airports, convention centers, and theme parks. The solicitation is designed to understand optimal pricing and risk models while implementing the latest technology for system installation, integration, and maintenance. The contractor must be licensed to do business in Florida and capable of performing work under Florida law, with the Aviation Authority retaining the option to provide certain supplies, parts, compatible equipment, and operating systems while the contractor furnishes all necessary labor for installation and operations throughout the seven-year contract term.
