Q&As 4/23/23

1. The existing excitation system seems to have a rotating DC exciter that provides a field current to the generator field. The excitation supply is provided by an Amplidyne, which is controlled by a Rheostate and AVR buck/boost control. Please confirm if my understanding is correct.

That is correct, our current generators excitation has a rotating DC exciter system.

2. In similar projects, Reivax has delivered and installed a static excitation system with an excitation transformer (PPT). The feed to the PPT has been from the generator terminals (13.8kV etc.). The rotating DC exciter has been left on the shaft, but disconnected electrically. For AC feeder connection, we have used 15kV 2/0 cable most of the time and DLO cable for connection to the generator collector rings. Would Falcon Dam have a similar retrofit.

Regards the static excitation system. I spoke with our Falcon Power Superintendent, and we concur the static excitation would be the more appropriate upgrade for our current excitation system.

3. As for control room interface, we are not familiar with PLC Indusoft software, but we could get a 3rd party to perform that work.

Regards the PLC programming, we can provide information about the vendor who install and program our existing PLC, only if you’re selected to perform this project and vendor approved to release the information.

4. In addition to the PLC connection, we would also recommend one (1) remote 15” HMI screen which can view and control all three (3) units from a single point. The remote screen would have the same look as teh local HMI screen for each exciter line-up.

15 HMI screen would be great to have it in the proposal.

5. As for the hazardous material, is there a hazardous material inspection report available for the plant where IBWC hired a 3rd party to conduct such an investigation? This is typically how USACE works.

Regards the hazardous material. Please include the cost to perform the inspection and removal of these materials.
