Directivity and Coverage
Meyer Sound provides information on the coverage (in degrees, horizontal and vertical) for each of the specific loudspeakers that we are proposing, plus for each cluster or array of loudspeakers. The most accurate data on the directional behavior of the proposed arrays at any given frequency is obtained through viewing predictions of one or more arrays in our MAPP Online Pro acoustical prediction software, as it accounts for the interactions between cabinets. This is superior to a directivity index, which describes only the behavior of a single cabinet out of context of the array in which it actually functions.
Crossover Point
The crossover point from low- to high-frequency transducers in any Meyer Sound loudspeaker is the result of a painstaking and extremely complex measurement and listening procedure in the product’s design process. The crossover filters are one of a number of processing functions meticulously designed in the context of a fully integrated self-powered system, and implemented onboard each cabinet. Meyer Sound’s self-powered loudspeakers take this electroacoustic control to an extremely high level by ensuring adequate available power and maximum power transfer from amplifier to loudspeaker.
Throughout Meyer Sound’s history, electrical parameters intentionally have been made unavailable for user adjustment.
Most products from other manufacturers are provided with processor settings that may be changed or loaded into third-party loudspeaker management systems and then further altered. In fact, there is often a degree of uncertainty from loudspeaker system manufacturers themselves as to optimal settings for their products. This often results in system performance that is less than that indicated in the product’s specifications, which frequently poses a major obstacle to system optimization.
Temperature and Humidity
The impact on sound system performance of atmospheric conditions, including temperature and humidity, are not precisely predictable, however, MAPP Online Pro contains data that allow it to make predictions of the impact of environmental factors with reasonable accuracy. The predictions in this document were produced using this capability as noted.
Distortion
Distortion, in any of its forms or variations, is normally not specified or otherwise provided by loudspeaker manufacturers.
Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeaker systems offer superior distortion performance by virtue of the extreme control provided by the electromechanical design of our transducers, our signal processing, the near-perfect match between our transducers and power amplifiers, and, finally, through our complex limiting circuitry. The loudspeaker system design proposed for this facility will provide ample system headroom, further reducing the likelihood of audible distortion.
Loudspeaker Coverage
The sound pressure level plots produced by MAPP Online Pro reveal the horizontal direct field coverage that will be provided by the loudspeakers fed with octave band, constant percentage noise centered at the frequency shown. These plots make use of high-resolution complex data (obtained through 1/48 octave band, complex data measurements taken at one degree increments) to show the interaction between loudspeakers.
Operating Ranges and Weather Protection
All Meyer loudspeakers are capable of operating within a temperature range of 0° C to +45° C (+32° F to +113° F). The non-operating temperature range is < -40° C or > +75° C. The Weather Protection option provides increased resistance to outdoor environmental conditions. In accordance with IEC standard 60529 the weather protected loudspeakers achieved an IP42 rating indicating protection from direct sprays of water up to 15 degrees from vertical.
