About this file
This is a Master Plan document for Augusta Technical College, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia covering the five-year period from 2020 to 2025. The plan was developed by 2K Architects, Inc., in collaboration with college leadership including Dr. Jermaine Whirl (President), Sheila Hill (VP Administration Services), Garry Stephens (Director of Facilities), and Dr. Melissa Frank-Alstin (Provost), with input from faculty, staff, and board members. The document outlines comprehensive strategic planning across the college's main campus in Augusta and three satellite campuses located in Columbia County (Grovetown), Thomson/McDuffie County, and Waynesboro/Burke County. Key initiatives include expansion of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Technology programs, development of Health Sciences facilities in downtown Augusta, creation of a new student center ("Heart of Campus") with water features and amphitheater, beautification of campus entrances and I-520 visibility, skilled trades facility expansion, and themed academic programming at satellite campuses focused on aviation, supply chain logistics, agribusiness, and early childhood education.
The master plan identifies specific capital projects and renovation needs across all four campuses during fiscal years 2021-2026, with detailed cost estimates provided for building renovations and repairs ranging from $26,000 to $6.88 million per project. Main campus projects include renovation of Buildings 100, 200, 300, 600, 700, 800, and 900, with total estimated costs exceeding $20 million including escalation factors of 5% per year. The plan prioritizes five strategic areas: Student Success with Equity Focus, Organizational Culture, Engaging Learning Environments, Institutional Storytelling, and Community Engagement. Enrollment data shows growth across the college's footprint, with the main campus serving approximately 3,500 students as of 2020. The college plans land acquisition near the Lumpkin Road entrance and proposes an "Augusta Tech 2.0" enterprise campus opportunity across Interstate 520 to support future expansion and workforce development initiatives.
