About this file

This is a Vendor Question and Answers List addressing pump performance specifications for a laboratory testing application.

The buyer acknowledges that meeting two operating points with a single pump presents a technical challenge and has clarified that operational flexibility is the primary requirement rather than strict adherence to all specifications. The pump will be used exclusively for infrequent laboratory testing operations, typically less than 8 hours per week. The buyer has indicated willingness to relax the minimum continuous stable flow (MCSF) requirement if necessary, justified by the minimal operational demand. Vendors must provide pump curves that meet or exceed MCSF, do not extrapolate beyond published manufacturer curves, and operate within the pump's allowable operating range as defined by HI 9.6.3 standards. The response emphasizes that theoretical or extrapolated extensions of published curves are unacceptable and that actual published performance data must be used to validate compliance.

Vendor Question and Answers List

1. Please confirm and provide clarification regarding the required pump performance for this project.

Response: We acknowledge there are two operating points that are difficult to hit with a single pump. The sole use of this pump is for laboratory testing where operations are infrequent and of short duration (typically less than 8 hours per week, likely even less at the extremes). Operational flexibility is the most important characteristic of this pumping unit. If finding a pump that meets both operating points is not achievable with your current selections, we are willing to relax spec requirement (a) (MCSF) justified by very infrequent operations and short durations.

Pump curves to satisfy the following requirement for the design points:

a. Must meet or exceed minimum continuous stable flow (MCSF);

b. Must not exist at the flows higher than those outlined on the published pump curves.

Theoretical or extrapolated extensions of published curves will not be acceptable.

c. Must exist within the pump’s allowable operating range (AOR), per HI 9.6.3
