About this file
This document contains questions and answers related to a solicitation for quarry and mining services at two Bureau of Reclamation sites in Yuma, Arizona. The solicitation seeks offers to crush and supply 7,400 tons of 1-4 inch gravel from the existing stockpile at the Section 7 quarry, and to crush and supply 6,600 tons of gravel from the existing 1-4 inch stockpile at the Agnes Wilson quarry. Offerors must confirm the use of existing stockpiles and haul and load materials, but are permitted to crush additional rock if needed. Water for operations may be drawn from the Colorado River near each site with prior approval. Roads of at least 12 feet in width and 3 inches of gravel base are required at each location.

140R3022Q0064 YAO Gravel Quarry Mining and Riprap Material Section 7 & Agnes Wilson Quarries
Question # Offeror Questions BOR Response Section 7 - Questions
During the site walk of the quaryy it was noticed that there is a large stock pile of 1" - 4" rock just below the quarry. Can DBR use this pile to crush and make the required 7400 tons of gravel? (See attached picture #1)
4" minus stockpile may be crushed to make the required 7,400 tons of gravel.
After walking the site and discovering the amount of work to create a road up to the crushing area. DBR would like to know if it would be permissible to set up a lay down yard down by the highway and haul the crushed gravel by offroad dump trucks down to the lay down yard and dump and then load highway dump trucks to haul to the two designated stockpile yards. This would enable DBR to have to put less work into a road that highway dump trucks would get stuck on. (Please see the attached picture for the proposed laydown area. #2)
The proposed laydown area next to the highway may not be used. Quarry work may only be performed at designated area shown on attached pdf
3 On page 8, section 8, part C of the SOW it states "Roads will be minimum of 12' wide with 3" of gravel base and will remain unlwss otherwise stated in the purchase order". Please confirm if this is correct for the road up to Section 7 quarry would require approximately 12,000 tons of gravel to cover it 3".
Confirmed
The SOW states the contractor can pull water from the Colorado River as long as we pull an application from YAO. Is there certain areas we are allowed to pull from or can we just pick the nearest area? It is also states we can get water from other approved sources. Can you please supply what the other approved sources are?
Water may be pulled from the nearest public area of the colorado river. An agreement is required with the Water Contracts department at Yuma Area Office prior to pulling water. Contact information will be provided upon award of contract. There are no other sources of water at this location.
5 Agnes Wilson Quarry Questions
During the site visit of the Agnes Quarry it was discovered that there is already a large stock pile of gravel and a large stock pile of 1" - 4". Would the government allow us to use the gravel stockpile and just load and haul and crush the 1" - 4" stock pile in lieu of blasting at the quarry for material? (See picture of quarry below. #3)
4" minus stockpile may be crushed to make the required 6,600 tons of gravel.
7 Since the access road to the Agnes quarry is already hard packed, will the government require the 3" of gravel as requested in the SOW?
Yes, the 3" of gravel is required.
