About this file

This document contains notes from a site visit regarding Solicitation Number 140P8423Q0047 to replace and relocate barricade gates at Pinnacles National Park. The site visit was held on August 29, 2023 and included a discussion of the automatic gate on the west side of the park. Questions were asked about how the push button to open the gate would function and be secured, the direction the gate opens, and how gates are secured on the east side when open. The National Park Service provided responses indicating the push button should be locked in a security box for employees, either a keypad or NPS key would be acceptable for the security box, the gate opens away from the park entrance and allows after hours exit with automatic closure, and the east side gates use a "gate keeper" design when open.

REPLACE AND RELOCATE BARRICADE GATES

PINNACLES NATIONAL PARK

SAN BENITO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

SITE VISIT – 11:00 am Tuesday, August 29, 2023

SITE VISIT SUMMARY:

A Site Visit was conducted on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time.

Participants met at the Camp Store (East Side) of Pinnacles National Park. Due to the hour and a half drive time from the east side and other time constraints, all participants unanimously decided against travelling to the west side to see the automatic gate. Photos of the west side gate were instead presented to the site visit participants (see attached), and the following questions were asked/answered about the west side automatic gate.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FROM SITE VISIT (regarding west side automatic gate):

1. Is the "push to open" button for the visitor to enter and exit park?

NPS response: No, the push to open should be locked behind a security box for park employees to open after hours when the gate is locked.

2. How should the security box be secured (keypad, key, etc.) for the "push to open" button?

NPS response: Either NPS key core or keypad is acceptable, with final approval during pre-work submittal process post-award. Two remotes must also be provided as described the specifications.

3. Which direction will the gate open and how will it operate after hours?

NPS response: The gate shall open away from the park entrance and shall be on a sensor system that allows visitors to exit after hours with the gate automatically closing behind them.

4. How are the east side gates secured when open?

NPS response: Schematic included in project solicitation documents has gate "keeper" design when open.
