About this file

The file contains a site visit sign-in sheet and questions and answers document for a fiber optic installation project at Mount Rainier National Park. The site visit is scheduled for September 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM, located at 55210 238th Ave. E. Ashford, WA 98304. Two prime contractors are listed: NWTel and CTS Telecommunications.

The project involves installing fiber optic infrastructure in two segments: TWoods and Nisqually. Key details include installing 6F singlemode fiber to multiple buildings (N-101, N-102, N-103) from N-301, and a 24F singlemode fiber from N-301 to the park boundary vault. The conduit installation depth is specified as 30-36 inches when possible. The total route footage is estimated at 700' for TWoods and 350' for Nisqually. The project requires coordination with LCPUD for fiber connections, and involves specific routing instructions for vault placement, conduit paths, and fiber termination points at various park buildings.

Questions and answers:

TWoods segment

Question - regarding the placement of the vault at the NPS Boundary at TWoods and path to building Answer – LCPUD will get the fiber across the road separate from this contract. So the vault will be on the park boundary as marked in Red and will then tie into existing conduit marked here in black. (Contractor will need to leave a fiber tail in the vault at the boundary long-enough to reach the LCPUD equipment – about 50’)

Past the established vault, the path follows the road around the curve and then takes a less dense (trees,) path to the corner of the building than was originally described in the picture.

- Question – where the conduit connects to the building there is existing conduit wrapping around the building with cable in

it. Question was if that existing path can be used for the fiber.

Answer – Yes. The new fiber can use this existing conduit or be routed in the building through the attic space. Either is acceptable.

- Question – a question about placement of the rack inside the building communication room.

Answer - 2-post rack needs to be installed adjacent to an existing 2-post rack within the room.

Nisqually segment

- Question – regarding the placement of the vault at the NPS Boundary Answer – outside of the entrance arch is the only suitable spot close to an existing CenturyLink vault which is just outside the boundary of the park. Shown here in Red. (LCPUD will bring conduit to that vault so the contractor does not need to extend past that point, but will need to leave a 100’ fiber tail there to tie into LCPUD.

Path for conduit will go from that vault to an existing vault inside the park which is detailed here – yellow . Existing conduit from that vault to a vault behind N-301, which has conduit into N-301.

Fiber from N-301 to N-103 – use existing conduit to the vault – then extended from to N-103 through new conduit. That will need to end in a external fiber terminal box on the side collocated with the existing copper phone line installation.

Fiber to N-102 and 103. This fiber can be pulled through existing conduit to the crawlspace under N-102. The path from N-102 to 103 will be new conduit. The path shown in the picture is not required, contractor can determine the best path between the two buildings.

Question about fiber count to each building, N-301 TO N-101, N-102, N103 Answer - 6F Singlemode fiber to each of those 3 from N-301. And a 24F singlemode fiber from N-301 to the vault at the park boundary.

Question - What is the route footage?

Answer: Rough distances, (the two who showed up didn't even pull out a measure wheel since the distance is not very long - I think they were comfortable with rough estimates too.)

TWoods - about 700' total Nisqually - about 350' total.

Question - What is depth the conduit needs to be installed at?

Answer: Depth is listed as 30-36" if possible. There are places where roots or existing infrastructure may modify that.
