Replace UV Film on Building Windows, FOVA
The following are questions/answers that were received the week of August 15th.
QUESTION 1: Is any of this lead based paint?
ANSWER1 : All of these building are modern reconstructions. We do not have reason to believe there is lead based paint.
QUESTION 2: Existing paint condition on windows is poor and sometimes when removing it from glass, a bit of it will flake off of a wood frame. If that happens, will contractor be required to touch up? Given the current paint condition there are lots of places were the paint has chipped, flaked or wore off already.
ANSWER 2: NPS will survey existing condition of windows and note where paint is in poor condition and where it is in good condition. If the contractor's work disrupts paint on windows in good condition, only then will the contractor need to touch up. Areas in poor condition where additional paint flakes off will be waived.
QUESTION 3: What is the age of the glass?
ANSWER 3: The buildings were built in the early 1970s and 2004, but my understanding is that sometimes older glass was utilized to give it an older look. I don't think we can date the window pane glass because of this.
QUESTION 4: Will NPS clean around windows and ceilings? It was explained to me that the area has a lot of cobwebs/spiders. This cleaning will add more time/labor hours so want to verify the conditions when project begins.
ANSWER 4: NPS will clean dirty areas (cobwebs/spiderwebs, dusty) prior to work commencing.
QUESTION 5: Will NPS move all furniture/misc. items around the work area/windowsills?
ANSWER 5: NPS will both clean and provide clear working space, moving any museum items that are in the way.
