About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for federal contract solicitation 140P8226Q0031 concerning Alaska yellow cedar lumber procurement for the Sulphur Banks project.
The document addresses two key clarifications regarding lumber specifications. First, items specified as 3x12, 3x5, and 3x6 are confirmed to be net sizes rather than nominal dimensions. Second, for structural applications including girder beams, support footing beams, and bracing, the contracting officer clarified that all structural beams must be Alaska yellow cedar SS select structural grade #1 to meet the highest strength requirements, rather than the #2 appearance grade initially referenced in the solicitation.

Q&A for 140P8226Q0031 HAVO Yellow Cedar Lumber for Sulphur Banks
Q: On items that are 3x12, 3x5, and 3x6, are these nominal or net sizes?
A: Net sizes.
Q: My next concern is for applications like girder beams, support footing beams, and bracing, those would require structural grades. The requested grade of #2 appearance will not meet that structural requirement. Can you please reconfirm grade requirement?
A: All structural beams should be Alaska yellow cedar SS select structural grade # 1 to meet highest strength.
