Solicitation 140P8222Q0005 Answers to Questions:
1. Can the whole top (“shell”) be solid with hinges to allow for filling, as the turtle will be hanging from the ceiling?
Yes, that would be a great idea! Due to weight-bearing concerns of the visitor center breezeway ceiling, the NPS has decided to have the sculpture mounted on the outside of the building. The sculpture will now be viewed from the side. Therefore, the marine debris inside the sculpture shall be viewable from the sides and bottom (and not just the bottom, as was originally stated).
2. Would you prefer the marine grade pulley to be motorized or manual?
Pulley is no longer needed. Please see revised Statement of Work.
3. Do you have a preference of points for the pulley? I’m sure you’d like as few as possible, but would a 3 point or 4-point pulley be acceptable?
Pulley is no longer needed. Please see revised Statement of Work.
4. I think recycled material would be an excellent choice for your exhibit. Would recycled material be acceptable?
Yes, recycled materials, when they can be used in the structure, would be preferable.
5. Could you tell me the maximum bearing weight of the ceiling location for the turtle sculpture?
The NPS has determined that the sculpture cannot be mounted from the ceiling. The sculpture will need to be mounted outside, in the ground. The substrate is disturbed lava, and therefore it should be mounted on a pole stand which will be bolted to the ground. Because the lava is quite hard, bolts can be driven directly into the ground for mounting purposes.
