About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for the BRVB Entry Courtyard Improvements project (Solicitation Number 140P6026B0004) issued by the Department of the Interior National Park Service Midwest Region. The document addresses six contractor inquiries regarding roof drainage systems and construction staking responsibilities for the courtyard improvements project.

The Q&A clarifies that all existing roof drains shown with dual solid lines and highlighted in green must remain in service and not be disturbed, as detailed on plan sheets G1.1 and C0.1. Only four abandoned roof drain pipes highlighted in red on the referenced plan sheets are to be removed, along with curb replacement in those locations. The single existing roof drain connection to the city storm sewer is to remain in service and must not be disturbed. The document confirms that no modifications are required to existing underground roof leader piping, and splash blocks or other appurtenances are not required at downspout locations. Regarding construction responsibilities, the contractor is responsible for their own construction staking; the topographic survey performed by Affinis and included on sheet G0.1 is provided for reference purposes only and does not relieve the contractor of staking obligations.

BRVB Entry Courtyard Improvements 140P6026B0004

1. Are existing roof drains and downspouts to remain in service?

Answer: Yes, all existing roof drains are to remain in service and not to be disturbed, as shown and noted on plan sheet G1.1 and C0.1. The existing roof drains that are in service are shown with a dual solid line, highlighted in green in the image below.

2. Are existing underground roof drain connections to the City storm sewer to be abandoned?

There is only one roof drain connection to the city's storm sewer, displayed on the image above and on plan sheet G0.1, shown below as well. It is to remain in service, do NOT disturb.

3. If abandoned, how are roof drains/downspouts intended to discharge?

The only roof drains to be removed are the 4 pipes shown on plan sheets G1.1 and C0.1, highlighted in RED on the image below. These 4 pipes are already abandoned. At one time they conveyed roof drainage to the street, daylighting through the existing curb. As shown on C0.1, these pipes are to be removed and the curb replaced in these locations.

4. Are splash blocks, surface swales, drain pans, or other appurtenances required at downspout locations?

Not Applicable.

5. Is any modification required to existing underground roof leader piping?

No

6. Also, it seems to indicate you are going to have Affinis (surveyor) lay out the project ahead of time. Is that correct? or should we include that in our proposal?

The topographic survey was performed by Affinis and is included on sheet G0.1 for reference purposes only. The contractor is responsible for their own construction staking.
