About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for Amendment 1 to federal contract 140P5326R0010, addressing the replacement of exterior doors at a MACA (likely a federal facility or park) location.
The project requires contractors to provide wide stile aluminum doors with clear anodized Class I finish consistent with existing assemblies. Key requirements include: replacing six existing ADA door operators and adding six additional operators to facilitate bidirectional pedestrian traffic, with operators to be either LCN or COR-approved equivalents; installing new hardwired ADA push buttons utilizing existing infrastructure; providing rim exit devices with removable mullion compatible with the Park's Marshall Best Security (MBS) small-format interchangeable core (SFIC) 7-pin system, with Von Duprin as the basis of design but equivalent commercial-grade devices permitted subject to COR approval; replacing all door closers with surface-mounted units; installing bird-safe fritted safety glass with contractor-submitted patterns for COR approval; and adding two additional automatic operators per entrance (interior vestibule and exterior doors) to ensure proper pedestrian traffic flow alignment. The contractor may propose LCN 4640 or equivalent commercial-grade low-energy automatic door operators subject to COR approval. All hardware selections and configurations require COR review and approval during the submittal process. The document clarifies that the finish should remain within standard clear anodized aluminum ranges without noticeable contrast to aged finishes. No estimated magnitude of construction has been posted for this solicitation.

MACA - Replace VC Exterior Doors
Questions and Answers
1. Door Stile Width
Question: The scope of work states medium–style doors, but the existing exterior doors are wide-style. Which type is to be provided: medium or wide stile?
Response: Provide wide stile aluminum doors consistent with the existing exterior door assemblies.
2. Door Operators
Question: Are we required to replace the existing ADA door operators and install new operators on the opposite side to improve pedestrian traffic flow?
Response: Yes. Replace the existing six (6) ADA door operators and provide six (6) additional operators to support both incoming and exiting pedestrian traffic.
3. Question: The existing ADA door operators are manufactured by LCN. Are the new door operators required to be LCN?
Response: Contractor may provide LCN or an approved equivalent commercial-grade low-energy automatic door operator, subject to COR approval.
4. Question: Can the new ADA push buttons be wireless?
Response: Provide hardwired ADA push buttons utilizing the existing junction boxes and wiring infrastructure.
5. Question: Do the new ADA door operators have to be connected with the existing ADA push buttons or should new ADA push buttons be provided?
Response: Provide new ADA push buttons as part of the new door operator installation.
6. Door Hardware Question: There are several manufacturers of exit device door hardware.
What type is the basis of design?
Response: Existing door hardware manufacturer is Von Duprin. Contractor may propose equivalent commercial-grade devices subject to COR approval. All hardware shall be fully compatible with and capable of accepting the Park’s Marshall Best Security (MBS) small-format interchangeable core (SFIC) 7-pin system without modification.
7. Question: Would the owner accept one of the following hardware options and select a preference?
Response: The Park prefers Rim exit devices with removable mullion. Final hardware selections and configurations shall be submitted for review and approval by the COR during the submittal process.
8. Door Finish Question: The description of work calls out the finish as clear anodized class
I. Do you want us to match the existing finish as closely as possible?
Response: Provide aluminum doors and framing with a clear anodized Class I finish as specified. The intent is to maintain a similar overall appearance to existing assemblies;
however, exact color matched to aged or weathered finishes is not required. Finish shall remain within the standard range of clear anodized aluminum and shall not deviate to a different color tone or finish type. Noticeable contrast (e.g., significantly darker or non-matching tones) is not acceptable.
9. Door Closers Question: All closers are to be replaced, correct?
Response: Yes. All door closers shall be replaced as part of the new door assemblies.
10. Automatic Door Operators (Additional) Question: Two additional automatic operators need to be added at each entrance (one interior vestibule door and one exterior door). Is this correct?
Response: Yes. The intent of the project is to add two additional automatic operators per entrance. The final configuration shall ensure that push button activation aligns with the intended pedestrian traffic flow and ADA accessibility requirements, subject to COR review and approval.
11. Question: The original low power door operator was LCN 4640. Do you want to go back with the same?
Response: Contractor may provide LCN 4640 or an approved equivalent commercial-grade low-energy automatic door operator, subject to COR approval.
12. Bird-Safe Glass Question: Please confirm if etched or fritted glass should be used and which pattern is preferred.
Response: Provide bird-safe fritted safety glass as specified in the Scope of Work.
Contractor shall submit available frit patterns meeting bird-safe performance requirements for COR review and approval during the submittal process.
13. Exit Devices Question: Do you want concealed rod exits, surface rod exits, or rim exit devices?
Response: Provide rim exit devices with removable mullion. Exit devices shall be commercial-grade panic hardware compatible with the Park’s Marshall Best Security (MBS) small-format interchangeable core (SFIC) 7-pin system.
14. Door Closers Configuration Question: Originally concealed overhead closers were installed and later replaced with surface mounted closers. Should concealed or surface closers be provided?
Response: Provide surface-mounted door closers. Concealed overhead closers are not required for this project.
15. Is there an estimated magnitude of construction for this one?
