About this file

This document contains correspondence regarding a federal solicitation for roof and gutter replacement services at Great Smoky Mountains Tremont Kitchen and Dining Hall. The contractor questions the required spacing of fall protection roof anchors, which must be installed at approximately every 8 feet along the ridge and not within 6 feet of the gable end. Additionally, the contractor recommends using 24-gauge steel R-panels rather than the specified 26-gauge, as the heavier gauge would provide more strength, impact resistance, wind resistance, and withstand higher snow loads, which are important considerations for the mountain location. The contracting officer confirms that 24-gauge steel would be acceptable for the R-panels, and the contractor must still submit product data for review and approval.

Solicitation No. 140P5323R0051 Roof & Gutter Replacement Tremont Kitchen and Dining hall

1. attended the site visit last Thursday and we appreciate the opportunity to see the project. After seeing the site we have a question and a recommendation:

What is the spacing on the fall protection roof anchors (24”, 36”, 48” on center etc.)?

The scope of work is requiring a 26-gauge steel R-Panel. We would recommend using a 24-gauge steel R-Panel. The 24-gauge panel has more strength, is more impact resistant to hail, can handle higher winds, and heavier snow loads. The 24-gauge panel makes more sense in or near the mountains due to the above mentioned conditions.

1. As stated in Section II of the Scope of Work, under Roof Specification bullet f, permanent fall protection roof anchors must be installed at approximately every 8’ along the ridge and not be installed within 6’ of the gable end.

Regarding the steel R-Panel, 24 gauge would be acceptable. The Contractor will still be required to submit the proposed product data for review and approval.
