140P5323R0050 Q&A

BLRI – Tree Clearing

Updated 8/5/2023

1.) Question: In the A1 SOW pdf there is a section highlighted in yellow on the 5th spread sheet page for Virginia option 2 & 3 2023. Is there a meaning to the yellow highlight?

Answer: The yellow highlighted areas indicate the large trees to be removed. The yellow highlighted areas indicate the number of trees, sizes, and bridge location/sides of the trees (1-30"

W) for option 2 & 3. If there is a "-" no work to be completed and is there only for consistency in the list.

2.) Question: When would we be able to send invoices, will it be after every site is cleared or at the end of the month?

Answer: Invoices can be submitted by-weekly or monthly.

3.) Question: Can we mulch the vegetation, or does it have to be removed by hand?

Answer: Yes, the vegetation can be mulched, but piles of mulch will not be deeper than 3" to 4" deep.

4.) Question: Also do you want us to chip the debris if it is being removed by hand or just leave it where it falls?

Answer: Yes, chipping is preferred. Woody tree debris can be removed by hand (pilled off into non-trimmed areas) in order to make the cleared areas easily accessible by foot. Larger trees, 2" or greater can be limed and pushed to the edges of the clearing away from the structures and roadways.

5.) Question: What is meant by “travel/admin” on the bid schedule?

Answer: Overhead, Profit, cost of doing business, lodging for out-of-town work.

6.) Question: Why do NC option 2,3,4,5 and 6 not have any disposal method listed for the bridge work?

Answer: There are several options that are acceptable for the woody vegetation debris for NC options 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The debris directly above the tunnel openings will be totally removed from the sight or chipped on either side of the tunnel opening. No wood chipping piles will be greater than three inches. The vegetation on either side of the tunnels can be cut and left in place with all woody tree trunks limbed and laying flat on the ground.
