National Historical Park

Solicitation # 140P5123R0003

Questions and Answers

Question 1. For the Vertical Lift. The travel height on the example specified Symmetry Wheelchair Lift has a maximum lifting height of 168 inches (14 feet). The travel height required, per the contract specification 14 42 16.2.2.C is 18 feet. Please clarify.

Answer: The Symmetry lift is stated to have a max travel height of 14 feet to comply with state law limits in what can be characterized as a lift. The Symmetry lift can accommodate 18 foot travel. At NPS' discretion, they can seek a variance of the state law limitation or rely on direction from the NPS AHJ for approval. When contacting and coordinating with manufacturer indicate required 18 foot travel requirement.

Question 2. Will a non-Symmetry Vertical Platform Lift that meets this travel height but with a slower speed be acceptable?

Answer: No substitutions will be considered. The A/E worked specifically with this manufacturer to accommodate the unique conditions of this installation.

Question 3. The specification 14 42 16 2.2.L.3.d.1.c states "Specified under Division 16 a telephone line shall be supplied to the lift". Division 16 not found. Where will the telephone line to the elevator originate and what routing is required?

Answer: The current telephone line which serves the existing lift can be reused. It currently routes to the existing lift telephone to the attic level machine room. Contractor to use existing routing for telephone line.

Question 4. Will the Park's Authority Having Jurisdiction (Fire Marshall, Structural Fire Inspector, etc., (AHJ)) be performing inspections for the completed work?

Answer: Yes

Question 5. Will extended hours, possibly overnight and weekend work be permitted?

Answer: No, the park doesn't have the staff to oversee the work. Also, the park is closed on Sundays.
