About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for solicitation 140P4226Q0021, addressing technical clarifications for the reproduction wallpaper and carpet project at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site in Elverson, Pennsylvania, under the Department of the Interior National Park Service Northeast Region.

The document provides critical measurement and specification details in response to bidder inquiries regarding carpet installation requirements. For the ingrain carpet in the office space (21' 7 1/2" x 20' 5"), the government clarifies that the carpet should be historically accurate with 3-foot-wide strips seamed together to achieve final dimensions, requiring either 7 or 8 strips depending on orientation, with updated orientation guidance provided in Attachment 10. For the stairs and hallway components, specific measurements are established: step dimensions of 38.5" width x 11" depth x 7.25" height, a second floor landing of 93.25" width x 47.5" depth, and hallway installation as a runner rather than wall-to-wall coverage. These specifications address the technical ambiguities in the original drawing package and provide bidders with necessary data to prepare accurate proposals and cost estimates for the carpet materials and installation work.

140P4226Q0021 HOFU Wallpaper and Carpet for Ironmasters House Q & A

1. I am trying to prepare a proposal for the ingrain carpet and venetian carpet for this project and I am unable to obtain the required measurement data from the drawings provided as Attachment #2.

For the Ingrain Carpet for the Office the overall dimensions appear to be 21' 7 1/2" x 20' 5" however it is important to know which way the carpet is oriented in the room. To be historically accurate this carpet should be woven 3' wide and then seamed together to achieve the final room dimensions. Therefore it may require 7 or 8 strips depending on the orientation.

See updated 1st floor drawing (attachment 10) showing the carpet orientation following the red arrows on the drawing.

2. For the stairs and hallway it would be helpful to know the height and depth of a step & the total number of steps. Also is the hallway to be a wall to wall install or just a runner?

Step measurement: 38.5" (w) 11" (d) x 7.25 (h). 2nd floor landing measurement:

93.25" (w) x 47.5" Hallway Runner

For the stairs and hallway it would be helpful to know the height and depth of a step & the total number of steps. Also is the hallway to be a wall to wall install or just a runner?
