About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) and Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for the Yosemite National Park's Tuolumne Meadows Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) replacement project. The document contains multiple technical clarification requests from the architectural and engineering (AE) team regarding specific design details, including pipe materials, valve types, duct insulation, structural elements, and construction specifications. Key queries cover topics such as pipe schedules, material specifications, concrete reinforcement, stair dimensions, and penetration details for precast structures.
The federal contract opportunity involves replacing the existing WWTP at Yosemite National Park, with a project scope that requires construction during limited seasonal access (June 15 to October 15 each year) over an anticipated six-year period. The solicitation requires offerors to demonstrate project experience with activated sludge process facilities in municipal wastewater applications, specifically for facilities with a design capacity between 10,000 and 60,000 gallons per day. Proposal requirements include submitting project experience documentation, past performance questionnaires, key personnel resumes, and a project schedule, with the contract administered by the Department of the Interior National Park Service.

Per Specification section 33 41 01 Storm Drain Sanitary Sewer and Drainage Piping, it states for Pipe and Fittings to be specified in the Data Sheets following "End of Section" The data sheets call out to be Polyethylene (PE) Profile Wall (Spec Section 33 41 01.07). Please confirm what is the material of the Sanitary Sewer pipe. | AE
| On Sheet 25D302 General note 2 States "ALL BELOW GRADE PIPES MUST BE ENCASED PER DETAIL 0330-016" Does this general note apply to all of the Pages? Please confirm if all Below grade pipes need encasement per Detail 0330-016. | AE | ||
| On Sheet 04Y130, Key Note 9 calls out for 3 locations to be Restrained Ball Valves V300. The drawing symbol for the Valve is shown as a Gate Valve. Please confirm if this is a Ball Valve V300 or a Gate Valve. | AE | ||
| On Sheet 10SD140, they show a 4" RW pipe from the RV Dump station that will go towards the Influent Pump Station. On the yard drawings such as Sheet 04Y130 it call's out the pipe to be a 4" SS. The same goes for the 12" SS from MH-7 to Influent Pump station which is called out as a 12" RW on 10D140. Please confirm correct pipe system, and material for the pipe. | AE | ||
| Drawing 10D140 references Wall Pipe Penetration Details 4027-605 for the SST piping and 4027-607 for the PVC piping penetrating the pre-cast Influent Pump Station. Both of these details specify wall spools/sleeves with weep rings that are typically used in cast-in-place concrete structures. Since this structure is pre-cast, please provide an alternative detail, or guidance, for penetrations into pre-cast structures, such as utilizing a core-drilled penetration with a modular mechanical seal, or a core drilled penetration and grout as shown on detail 3305-730. Please confirm if either a core-drilled hole with link seal or a core-drilled hole with grout is acceptable for the pipe penetrations into the pre-cast Influent Pump Station structure. | AE | ||
| Note 1 of HVAC Drawing 50M130 says to internally line 18" round duct. Note callout is pointing to a duct that has a callout for 16x12 rectangular. Which size and type of duct is correct? | AE | ||
| Spec section 23 07 00 calls for mechanically cooled and heated duct to be insulated. Drawing 50M130 is unclear as to what type of insulation method is to be used particularly in the operations building outside of the process area. Please clarify if insulation is required, and if it is external or internal for supply and exhaust ductwork for all buildings with ductwork. | AE | ||

Manual Screen 20-BSCN-120 (sheet 20D133) spans a trench/channel that is indicated to have embedded angle grating support on both sides (Keynote 4 on Sheet 20S130). The embedded angle requires 2" of horizontal bearing (Note 12 Detail 0553-001). Detail 4027-804 shows anchors for Manual Bar Screen to be 1-1/4" away from the edge of the trench/channel, this anchor location will be in conflict with the embedded angle. Confirm that top bent plate needs to be lengthened and provide guidance on anchor clearance from embedded angle or provide required length of top bent plate. | AE
| Refer to detail 0531-016. Provide dimension (width) for top (horizontal) 3/8" plate. | AE | ||

| Refer to sheet 20S140. The Drawing appears to indicate a ridge beam, with W8x31 outriggers 8” adjacent on both sides, between the outermost trusses and walls 1 and 5 at the East and West ends of the Process Building. None of the other buildings depict a ridge beam in that span. Please clarify whether these ridge beams between the outermost trusses and the walls are uniquely required for the Process Building Roof Framing. | AE | ||
| Refer to Sheet 25S130. The aluminum stairs on the Upper Plan are drawn depicting 18 treads (19 risers), however the dimension/call-out states "14 TREADS @ 11" = 16' 10" - 15 EQL RISERS". 14 treads at 11" each yields a dimension of 12'-10", while 18 treads at 11" each would generate an overall dimension of 16'-6". Please clarify the number of treads, the span per tread, and overall horizontal dimension for these aluminum stairs. | AE | ||
