ROMO 327127 – Amendment 0002 – QUESTIONS
Q1. Does NPS have an approved list of weed free aggregate sources? MRC realizes this certification needs to be renewed each year but a past list would be helpful.
A1. ROMO has found that many aggregates, especially riprap generally do not offer weed free certifications. Therefore, ROMO does not expect to see weed free certifications on products that do not typically offer such a certification. However, ROMO does expect such rock and aggregate products to arrive clean, and free of any contamination such as soil/dirt or vegetation. Also, ROMO expects that the contractor will provide weed free certifications for products that typically do offer weed free certifications, such as top soil and mulch.
Q2. Tonahutu Creek Culvert has some extremely large boulders especially on the upstream end that will possibly conflict with proper installation of rip rap work specified. Would we be able to break-up, remove, or relocate these boulders to complete the work?
A2. ROMO is happy to work with contractors to facilitate the proper placement of riprap scour countermeasures. Generally, the park does not endorse the concept of breaking up large existing rocks in order to install smaller rocks. However, the park recognizes that in some cases it is clearly necessary to relocate or break rocks to install a functioning countermeasure. (ROMO will need to go look at the field conditions at Tonahutu) ROMO expects such a determination will be made through the RFI process with consultation of both the design and compliance team members. In the past large rock breaking has been completed inside the park using non-explosive expansive agent (dexpan).
Q3. See 01 32 16-4, No. 2, Little Horseshoe Park Bridge, Item e and f: Should all decking planks be removed and replaced to allow cleaning and painting of the top of the steel beams, and to allow better access to the work below the bridge?
A3. The intent is not to remove all the decking for painting. It is noted to clean and paint the exposed surfaces of the steel girders and it is understood that the top of the steel girders would not be painted.
Q4. See 01 32 16-6, Option A, Big Thompson River Bridge, Item i: Is the touch up painting of the Pin and hanger systems at all four locations (2 upstream, 2 downstream)?
A4. The touch up painting is for all four pin and hanger locations on the bridge.
Q5. See 01 32 16-6, Option B, Aspenglen Campground Bridge, Item h: Is jacking of the precast tees required to clean and coat the bearings, or is work to be performed on accessible bearing areas only?
A5. No jacking of the precast tees is required. The exposed accessible bearing areas are to be cleaned and coated with rust converter compound.
Q6. Due to the small quantities involved, is there a staging area on the East and West sides of the divide that could be used to centrally stockpile materials that could be accessed for each of the individual sites requirements?
A6. See attached pdf for additional staging information.
Q7. Will payment for each location be the Lump Sum Bid Amount or will the Unit Prices be applied to field measured quantities at each location for payment?
A7. Payment is paid via percent complete per Contract Line Items. Quantities listed in the drawings are estimates. The contractor is required to verify all numbers and proposed accordingly.
Q8. Would we be able to submit a past performance for a project our sister company completed?
A8. Yes, this is permissible. It is recommended to identify the relationship.
