About this file

This document provides additional questions and answers for Amendment 3 to the solicitation for the Rehabilitate the Madison Junction Water Treatment System project. The amendment modifies the requirement for the contractor to tie into the existing 6-inch water main downstream of Collection Box E, instead requiring the contractor to tie into the existing manhole near Station 5+65 on the plans. Between the tie-in and Manhole 3, the contractor shall maintain a downward slope but can vary from the plans since the existing pipe is lower than planned at Station 5+65. The contractor must submit their tie-in plan to the Contracting Officer for approval. The amendment also confirms that steel piping meeting project specifications is an acceptable alternative to the 2-inch ductile iron pipe specified inside the building.

Amendment 3 Rehabilitate the Madison Junction Water Treatment System Solicitation 140P1422R0006: Additional Q&As

Change: Tie-in to Existing Water Main

In Amendment 2, Question/Answer 13 stated that “the contractor shall tie into the existing 6” pipe somewhere downstream of “Collection Box E” (an existing spring box located where Manhole E is shown on Sheet C3.1). The contractor shall submit their tie-in plan to the Contracting Officer”.
This shall be modified to say that the contractor shall tie into the existing manhole near approximately where the new planned main crosses the existing main (approximately Station 5+65). The contractor shall install Manhole 3 and Manhole 4 as shown on the plans. Between the tie-in near Station 5+65 and Manhole 3, the contractor shall maintain a downward slope toward Manhole 3 but the slope can be different than that shown on the plans since the old pipe is lower than the planned new pipe at Station 5+65. The contractor shall submit their tie-in plan to the Contracting Officer.

General Project Information Q1. Sheet G1.4 shows 2” DI pipe. Current understanding is 2” DI pipe is not commercially available. Is steel piping acceptable as an alternate to the 2” DI pipe?

A1. Yes, steel piping meeting the requirements listed in project specifications is acceptable for the 2” pipe inside the building.
