About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for the BFO Fencing Project located in the Falxa/Iberlin area of Wyoming, issued by the Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management Wyoming Region under Solicitation Number 140L6226Q0014.

The document addresses two technical clarifications regarding fencing construction specifications. The first clarification confirms that metal vehicle gate support posts must use tubular pipe with a minimum 7-inch outside diameter and 20 lb/ft weight, set at least 48 inches deep, rather than the smaller 2 3/8-inch diameter pipe initially referenced. The second clarification addresses end panel design for wide gully bottoms subject to washout, approving two alternative designs: a 4-wire "break-away" gate across the gulley bottom with stress panels extending up the slope of each draw, or a suspended swinging flood gate design utilizing cables strung between stress panels on both sides of the gulley top with suspended hanging pipes and spacers. These clarifications indicate the project involves infrastructure fencing with specialized flood control and erosion management features.

Questions and Answers

Question 1: Should the posts supporting the metal vehicle gates use stronger tubular pipe than 2 3/8-inch diameter pipe?

Answer 1: Yes. The tubular pipe should be a minimum of 7-inch outside diameter and 20 lb/ft weight, set a minimum of 48 inches in depth.

Question 2: End panels in the wide gully bottoms are subject to wash out; would another design be appropriate?

Answer 2: Yes. As identified in the SOW, a 4-wire “break-away” gate across the gulley bottom with stress panels starting up the slope of each draw may be constructed. A suspended swinging flood gate design is also acceptable, consisting of a cable strung between the stress panels on both sides of the gulley top with suspended hanging pipes and spacers between the pipes.
