About this file

This is a Section 096813 specification document for tile carpeting installation, effective March 23, 2026, for a federal construction project at the Boise District Fuels Building (2056 Commerce Ave, Boise, ID 83705).

The specification requires modular carpet tile installation with the following product specifications: 100 percent nylon 6,6 or better fiber content; level-loop pile; density of 9000 or better; available in 24x24-inch or 18x36-inch sizes; and manufacturer's standard soil-resistance and antimicrobial treatments meeting AATCC 174 standards. The carpet must achieve Silver level certification per ANSI/NSF 140 and comply with CRI's "Green Label Plus" testing program and California Department of Public Health volatile organic chemical emissions standards. Performance requirements include a minimum appearance retention rating of 3.0 for heavy traffic per ASTM D 7330; dimensional tolerance within 1/32 inch; dimensional stability of 0.2 percent or less per ISO 2551; and colorfastness to crocking of not less than 4 (wet and dry) per AATCC 165. Installation requires pressure-sensitive adhesives with VOC content of 50 g/L or less, certified as low or ultra-low VOC, complying with California emissions testing standards. The manufacturer provides a 10-year warranty from date of Substantial Completion covering repair or replacement of defective materials or workmanship. Installation must follow CRI Carpet Installation Standards and manufacturer instructions, including glue-down application with full-spread releasable adhesive, dye-lot integrity maintenance, pile-direction pattern compliance, and staggered joint installation for access flooring. Preinstallation conference, product data submittals, sample warranty information, and maintenance data are required.

B. Painted Subfloors: Perform bond test recommended in writing by adhesive manufacturer.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. General: Comply with CRI's "CRI Carpet Installation Standards" and with carpet tile manufacturer's written installation instructions for preparing substrates indicated to receive carpet tile.

B. Use trowelable leveling and patching compounds, according to manufacturer's written instructions, to fill cracks, holes, depressions, and protrusions in substrates. Fill or level cracks, holes and depressions 1/8 inch wide or wider, and protrusions more than 1/32 inch unless more stringent requirements are required by manufacturer's written instructions.

C. Concrete Substrates: Remove coatings, including curing compounds, and other substances that are incompatible with adhesives and that contain soap, wax, oil, or silicone, without using solvents. Use mechanical methods recommended in writing by adhesive and carpet tile manufacturers.

D. Metal Substrates: Clean grease, oil, soil and rust, and prime if recommended in writing by adhesive manufacturer. Rough sand painted metal surfaces and remove loose paint. Sand aluminum surfaces, to remove metal oxides, immediately before applying adhesive.
