About this file
This is an appendix and questions-and-answers document that provides site-specific details for seismic station construction and installation work under a federal contract, updated September 1, 2026.
The document identifies 26 existing and future seismic monitoring stations across California regions including the Mammoth Lakes area, Lassen National Park, SF Bay Area, North Coast, Sonoma County, Sierra Foothills, Salinas Valley, and Eastern Sierra. Each station listing includes geographic coordinates, construction element classification (ranging from element 1 to element 3, with some TBD), and special site considerations affecting construction methodology and logistics. Key site constraints documented include restricted vehicle access requiring hand installation of equipment at multiple locations (LEL, LRD, MCV, MDC, MLC), vegetation clearing requirements (LBC, MLH, MPR), extended conduit runs (LMUD at 150 feet, JHUB at 50 feet), non-standard installations such as 30-foot lattice towers (LMUD), removal of existing vaults (CCF, JECC), and accessibility for mini excavators or trailers. The document specifies that USGS handles seismic equipment installation post-construction and supplies additional solar panels beyond the standard 200W @ 12VDC default configuration (with recent panel models specified as Renogy RSP200D and NewPowa NPA200S-12l). Original six priority stations are schedulable in one trip to meet winter deadlines, while the remaining 20 future stations are expected to require approximately four additional trips pending permit approvals. Four sites require 900MHz Yagi antennas with one cellular antenna; three to four future sites require six to seven cellular antennas total.

Answers to Vendor Site Walkthrough Questions 2026.08.24
(answers below each question in BLUE for original 6 stations, in RED for future stations)
• Question No. 1-How many sites will require cattle guards?
• Answer: None, None
• Question No. 2 How many sites will have restricted access requiring walking / hiking to the site? i.e. location not suitable for driving truck and trailer directly to the site.
• Answer:
o See “special considerations” column in the tables above for those details; if nothing is listed, it means that you can drive to the site.
o See “special considerations” column in the tables above for those details; if nothing is listed, it means that you can drive to the site.
• Question No.3 What is the timeline for building all of the sites on the contract? Can they all be scheduled and built in one trip.
• Answer:
o Now that there are only 6 sites left on the original list, yes, you can schedule them all in one trip. The 4 Mxx stations are by far the priority stations to get built to beat winter.
o Once these future stations are released via upcoming task orders, I expect that the remaining 20 could be accomplished in about 4 trips. We are still waiting for permits to build about 9 of these 20.
• Question No.4 How many sites will require more than 200w of solar power?
Answer:
o If a station requires more than one 200W solar panel, USGS will supply the extra panel(s).
o If a station requires more than one 200W solar panel, USGS will supply the extra panel(s).
• Question No.5 How many sites require 900MHz Yagi antenna's?
o Four. One cellular antenna.
o Three to four. Six to seven cellular antennas.
• Question No.6 Are contractors allowed to install seismic equipment after the infrastructure is built?
• Answer:
o No, USGS handles installation of the seismic equipment.
o No, USGS handles installation of the seismic equipment.
• Question No. 7 In the Statement of Work there are several references to specification that point to one of the Appendix. However when
I look at the Appendix it does not have the specifications. In particular the specs for the solar planes are not listed, it says to look at A.2 but that is the figure showing the station locations. So the wattage and/or model number of the solar panel would be useful. Also there are no dimensions for the battery/solar template listed anywhere, just a picture/sketch of it without any dimension.
o Those are typically provided in the individual task orders because they might differ from site to site. However, in general, our default wattage is 200W @ 12VDC. Recent models we have used are Renogy RSP200D and NewPowa NPA200S-12l.
