About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document related to a Department of the Interior (DOI) engine rebuild procurement. The file addresses inquiries from potential vendors regarding a Continental IO-550F-12B engine (Serial No. 1033410) requiring rebuild services.
The DOI is seeking to rebuild a non-serviceable engine that was removed from service due to low cylinder compression, camshaft pitting, and lifter pitting. The engine was originally rebuilt at the factory in January 2017 and had cylinders port and polished by Ly-Con Rebuilding Co. in May 2017 (not 2027 as erroneously listed in the solicitation). The engine is destined for stock inventory and could potentially be installed on aircraft tail number N206WB. DOI will handle packaging and shipping of the CORE to the awarded vendor and expects the vendor to coordinate return routing of the CORE to their engine supplier. The rebuilt engine will be ready for immediate shipment upon completion. The document also clarifies that DOI maintains standardization on IO550F engines for its Cessna 206 fleet and declined consideration of IO550N upgrades offering enhanced performance specifications.

Question Response Our STC is for the IO550N, serial numbers 2200 - 7020. It is an upgrade from the F giving an extra 20 knots and doubling your climb rate. The engine includes 2 magnetos, a de-congealing oil cooler, a 24-volt starter, four-point engine mounts; and a spin on oil filter.
Please send me your tail number or serial number if you would like a quote.
We are not interested in this option. We have a fleet of Cessna 206's that are standarized to use the IO550F and we would like to keep it that way.
Will the Department of the Interior pack and/or ship the CORE and can they do this within 30 days of receiving the rebuilt engine?
DOI will package and ship the CORE to the vendor that is awarded, it is their responsibility to route the CORE to the vendor of which they procured the engine.
Is the Cylinders Port & Polished on the Combined_Synopsis_Solicitation pdf a typo? It's not yet 2027.
The Combined_Synopsis_Solicitation lists the CORE as a:
Continental IO-550F-12B Serial No.: 1033410 Rebuilt at Factory January 2017 Cylinders Port & Polished by Ly-Con Rebuilding Co. 05/15/2027
This is a typo, the original request says 05/15/2017.
Is the CORE ready to be shipped back immediately and is it in serviceable condition. If not serviceable, what issues does it have?
Yes it will be ready to be shipped immediately. The engine is not serviceable. It was removed for low cylinder compression with camshaft and lifter pitting.
2. What is the tail number it is going on or a tail (to match) that it could go on?
This engine is going into our stock. This engine could go on N206WB.
