About this file

This is a Question and Answer document for federal contract opportunity 140D0426Q0514 issued on July 13, 2026, regarding the installation of an ornamental fence at the Museum of the Plains Indian.

The document addresses two contractor inquiries. The first question proposes substituting a steel fence system in place of the specified 8-foot tall aluminum ornamental fence, citing advantages including greater strength due to 14-gauge wall thickness versus 18-gauge aluminum and estimated material cost savings of approximately 50 percent. The contracting officer directs respondents to Amendment 0002 Attachment 1 for updates regarding this proposal. The second question requests confirmation of the design/specification designation (either DR-11 or DR-9) of an existing fence section to which the new fence installation would connect to ensure consistency and smooth integration. The contracting officer clarifies that no existing fence system will be connected, eliminating the need for tie-in specifications.

140D0426Q0514 – Museum of the Plains Indian – Installation of Fence

Question and Answer #2

July 13, 2026

1. Question: The new SOW states the fence system is to be 8' tall, aluminum ornamental. We suggest using a steel fence system. We have installed all the ornamental fence in Browning, MT for the tribe and all of it is steel. Wall thickness on the system is 14 ga rather than the 18 ga aluminum. We believe the system will be stronger, and also significantly less costly - perhaps half the cost in materials.

Answer: See Amendment 0002 Attachment 1 for updates.

2. Question: The existing fence section that the new fence installation will tie into what is the DR/specification of the existing first section already installed. They believe it may be DR-11, but it could also be DR-9. It will help ensure that the tie-in is as smooth and consistent as possible. Could you please confirm the correct DR/specification for the existing section?

Answer: We are not connecting any existing fence system.
