1 GENERAL FUNCTION

The IMS Watertight Sliding Door, class III, is an electric / hydraulic operated sliding door.

The main principles of the door are:

Mimic panel / control panel: A mimic panel is located at the control station. It gives door location, door status and has control switches.

Door Close: Each door can be closed from the control station. The doors have a 5-10 second delay with local alarm before moving. The doors in remote closing mode may still be operated locally, however they will close automatically after use. Doors that are not closed will give a local audible alarm in this mode.

Local operation: The doors can be operated from both sides by the operating handle. Doors left in the middle position will give an audible local alarm.

Local manual operation: In case of no electric or hydraulic power, it is possible to operate the door from both sides using the manual hand pump and operating lever. Doors left in middle position will give audible local alarm.

Operation from emergency station (If ordered): Doors can be closed from the hand pump at the emergency station located above waterline.

1 GENERAL

Each door has an electrically driven hydraulic power pack complete with hydraulic accumulators, junction box for electrical power, signals to/from the control room, alarm bell, alarm lights (if such is ordered), hydraulic cylinders, limit switches, solenoid valve, and a manual hydraulic hand-pump. The door has handles on each side of the door for operation.

2 START UP AFTER MOUNTING OR SERVICE

• Remove cover from main frame: take off handles (nuts, 13 mm head,) loosen clips and lift off cover.

• Before starting up the door, the equipment inside the doorframe has to be checked for loose parts, pipes and fittings. Check also for damaged or stretched cables.

• Check/fill the oil level, see LUBRICANT AND OIL CHART “Hydraulic oil”

• Be sure that all foreign objects are removed from the door’s opening and the door blade’s track.

• The hydraulic pump is started by pushing the switch marked F1 in Motor starter unit and at the same time controlling the hydraulic pressure as indicated by the gauge on the connection block.

• The pressure will rapidly increase up to preloaded accumulator nitrogen pressure (approximately 60-75 bar) and then continue to normal working pressure 160-195 Bar.

• Check that the yellow light (relay in Motor starter unit) on the phase order controller is present.

3 TEST OF DOOR, LOCAL CONTROL

Before test ensure that all watertight sliding doors are in “Local Control” mode at the control station. Remove handles ( nut 13mm head) and cover plate.

3.1 Rubbersealing: visual check

The door must be closed during check.

• Door side of bulkhead: Use a flashlight and check that the rubber seal rests on the steelworks (no gaps). It is possible to see the rubber seal all the way around.

• Bulkhead side of door: See (check with your fingers) that the rubber seal rest on the steelworks (no gap). If you can’t feel the rubber seal properly behind the HUP integrated doorframe, use a dentist mirror.

Note: Ultra sound can also be used

3.2 Operation

Fit both the handles temporarily. Test the door with the operation handle

• Open the door by operation handle and check that the closing time is between 20 and 40 seconds

• Check the pressure manometer and ensure that the electric motor is activated when the pressure is 160 bar +/- 5 % and stops at 195 bar +/- 5%, after operation.

3.3 Alarm and indication

Open the door and cut the power to electric motor by pushing the button in motor protector (F1) inside the terminal box

• Ensure that “Loss of Power” is indicated by alarm light on the control panel.

• Activate the operation handle and check that the accumulator capacity is 3 full strokes (close-open-close).

• Operation by manual hand-pump: see chapter 4.

• After the operation test of the hand-pump, reset the motor protector and check the pressure built up in the hydraulic system by checking the manometer.

• Ensure that alarm lamp in the mimic panel is activated by 150 Bar.

• Check the low oil level switch in the tank. Use a magnet to force the indicator down to get alarm at the bridge.

4 OPERATION BY MANUAL HAND PUMP

To be done after Alarm and indication.

Before any hand pump test, ensure that the accumulator is without pressure as indicated by the manometer.

• With door is open position, activate the pump handle back and forth to close the door within 90 seconds.

• With door in closed position, turn the operation handle and use the hand pump to open the door.

• Ensure that the indication in control room is equal to position of door.

5 DOOR CLOSE

Turn the electric motor back on. Put the door in open position. Ensure that the closing zone is free.

• Activate the “Door Close” mode in remote control station.

• The audible alarm inside doorframe and flashing lights (if such was ordered) shall be activated in between 5-10 seconds before the door starts closing.

• While the door is still in “Door Close” mode, check that local operation is possible. In this mode the door shall start closing immediately when you release the operating handle again.

OIL CHART Appr. Date Page

FSK 17.10.02 3/4

The lubrication schedule is based on everyday use of the door.

2 LUBRICATION MECHANICAL PARTS

Use universal grease. For lubrication procedure see MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTION

3 LUBRICATION RUBBER GASKET

Clean with white spirit. Lubricate with silicone grease.

4 HYDRAULIC OIL

NOTE: The oil level depends on many factors. For example: Is the door open or closed or is there correct pressure in the accumulators? To get correct oil level, carefully follow the step by step procedure below.

4.1 First fill tank in door:

Fill the oil tank (approximately 15 liters) to 2-3 cm from the very top. Operate the door until the air is out of the system. The oil level has to be adjusted after the door is started.

4.2 Emergency pump station WT-doors (if ordered)

Fill oil in the emergency tank at emergency station. NOTE: Remove the air from the pipe between the door and the emergency station. Then adjust to correct oil level in the emergency tank. 4 litres of oil in the emergency tank (excluding pipes between emergency station and door)

4.3 Adjust to correct oil level in door tank:

4.3.1 F-12, MR, AH

See GENERAL DESCRIPTION “Types of doors”

Run the door until the motor starts. While the motor is still running, close the door. When the motor stops by itself (door still in closed position) check the oil level. If there is not enough oil (see level gauge) the low-level switch will stop the motor. The oil level switch is a floating magnet type and it is very slow. This means that after adding oil, you will have to run the door again until the motor starts, then close it and check the oil level when the motor stops. This has to be repeated until the oil level is on the FIRST level line at the oil level gauge.

1 SHUTDOWN FOR MAINTENANCE

Before servicing the door, the power for the electric motor has to be switched off and the hydraulic pressure has to be drained from the accumulator. Remove the handles (nut, 13mm head). Take off the cover and put back the handles. To switch off the pump, release the switch button marked F1 located in the Motor starter coil. Then move the door back and forth with the operation handle until the door stops and the oil pressure is 0 Bar.

3 Hydraulic accumulator

The hydraulic accumulator is located in the door-frame. Pre-charge nitrogen pressure shall be 60-75 Bar.

Check pre-charge nitrogen pressure at start up and every month as follows:

1. Remove cover plate from frame.

2. Make sure the electric power for the pump motor is switched off (Switch F1 inside motor starter coil.)

3. Empty the accumulator for oil by opening / closing / opening the door until hydraulic pressure gauge shows “0”.

4. Start the pump again. When the pump starts the pressure gauge increases fast from “0” up to the actual pre-charge nitrogen pressure of the accumulator. As stated above, pre-charge pressure should be between 60 and 75 Bar. If pressure is within limits, refit cover plate, if not, continue with refilling of gas.

5. Refilling; Stop the pump and empty the accumulator as described in steps 2 and 3. Disconnect rupture plug on top of the accumulator. Connect charging equipment on nitrogen bottle, then connect on top of the accumulator. Pre-charge the accumulator to 70 Bar.

6. The hydraulic unit is now ready for operation, and activating the push button, F1 inside the motor starter can start the hydraulic pump. The pump will now start and charge the hydraulic accumulator to normal working pressure 160 to 195 bar.
