Item Specification

• General (please see growth chamber requirements) o Walk in growth chamber, made with material that is smooth and impervious to liquids and can be cleaned and disinfected.144 sq ft of growing area that can accommodate different heights of plants from 20’ to 72”.

o Electrical service should meet the existing building parameters as specified in growth chamber requirements section 1.0.

o Air flow in chamber should be able to be electronically switched from controlled vertical airflow emanating in a vertically rising pattern from floor plenums for single tier growth mode, to horizontal airflow emanating in a horizontal pattern from perforated side-wall plenums in the multi-tier configuration. Air velocity shall be controllable as indicated with a maximum (verifiable) average of 0.25m/s +/- 10%.

o Outdoor air-cooled system (please see Growth Chamber requirements section 1.5 for relative location) refrigeration and specifically be designed using Ashrae 20-year extreme guidance for Hilo. Include electronic three-way modulating value to regulate chamber temperature.

o Multiple growth chambers will be connected by vestibule/anteroom which is sealed and prevents contents from growth chamber being directly released into the building.

Integrate negative pressure to achieve -0.25 to -0.50 Pa from adjoining ante room to meet containment parameters.

o Two growth chamber doors will open into the common vestibule with single access door.

Exterior dimensions should be 22' 9 3/4" wide by 16' 11 3/4" depth.

o External air exhaust will be passed through HEPA filter to 99.9997% before being released by growth chamber (please see growth chamber requirements). All air should be contained within the chamber and anteroom and not be allowed to vent unfiltered into the building or environment.

o Room should be secured for potential seismic activity in accordance with local code requirements. Documentation should be provided by including wet-stamped drawings and calculations completed by a Licensed Professional Engineer.

• Controller (please see growth chamber requirements section 2.o) o Should be programmable on daily schedule controller that shall controls platform including an automated service call-out functionality.

o Data should be able to be viewed locally at chamber and downloaded for record keeping by controlling system o Alarms should allow for local monitoring and through internet or other system to allow for alerts as managed by the controlling system

• Lighting (see growth chamber requirements section 3.0 for more information) o Provide lighting intensity of 1000 micromoles/m²/s in single tier configuration and 600 micromoles/m²/s in two or three tier configuration.

o Intensity should be able to be controlled for different light requirements, automatic dimming mailto:Tracie.Matsumoto@usda.gov capability should be combined with specific R/FR manipulation using separate 730nm sources.

Coincident R:FR ratio of 1 shall be achieved at nominal 50% total ppf value of broadband sources.

o Lights should be LED broad spectrum with supplemental far-red light with spectral properties specifically in accordance with section 3.0.

o Lights should be monitored and available on data display.

• Temperature o Chamber shall operate between 10°C to 35°C lights OFF, 15°C to 35°C ON with ±0.5°C at the control point.

o Provide a programmable min and max temperature or a limit tracking alarm that automatically follows the programmed set point o Provide an independent factory-set high and low temperature limit.

o Sensors are located in a self-contained portable aspirator. This allows accurate measuring and recording by sensing at plant location.

o Adjustable fan speed (50% to maximum fan speed)

• Humidity o Provide additive humidity function achieving up to 70% RH lights OFF/ON, limited by a 25°C maximum dew point.

o Ensure humidity control of ±3% RH and incorporate a dry humidity sensor to directly measure humidity in %RH.

o Provide dehumidification using mechanical means to achieve a desiccation rate of 6 pounds/hour of moisture at minimum to achieve a minimum -3oC dewpoint.

• Supplement Carbon Dioxide o Provide additive C02 control including all necessary sensors, control valves, and injection system for additive CO2. Programmed up to 2,000 ppm and monitor for concentrations up to 3,000 ppm. System shall incorporate fully automated mechanical dampers for management of chamber pressure control and C02 concentrations.

• Installation o Vendor shall include full installation of equipment and components at project site including connections to external air-cooling unit o Full installation and commissioning shall be completed by vendor within eight weeks of mobilizing to site.

• Warranty o Vendor shall provide a full three-year warranty on all equipment including parts and labor.

o Preventative Maintenance: Vendor shall provide a full three-year on-site preventative maintenance program on a minimum once-annual basis.
