SECTION 010150
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
PART 1 – SUMMARY OF WORK
1.1 DESCRIPTION
A. Work for this project requires the contractor to be responsible for supplying all labor, materials, equipment, utilities, miscellaneous items, freight and delivery and all necessary valid licenses for the work summarized as follows:
a. Roof Replacement on the Student Activity Center Building.
b. Roof venting improvements on the Carpentry Building.
1.2 LOCATION
A. This project is located at the Boxelder Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center located Four miles from Nemo South Dakota in Lawrence County. The address is 22023 Job Corps Pl, Nemo South Dakota, 57759.
1.3 PROJECT SCHEDULING
A. Work hours for this project are between 8:00 AM-3:30 PM Monday through Friday, while students are not present in the dormitories.
1.4 POINT OF CONTACT

1.5 USE OF PREMISES
A. Confine constructions operations to immediate area of work. Do not disturb portions of Project site beyond areas in which the Work is indicated.
B. Government will occupy site and buildings during entire construction period. Cooperate with Government during construction operations to minimize conflicts and facilitate Government usage. Perform the work so as not to interfere with Government's day-to-day operations.
C. Keep driveways, parking areas, loading areas and entrances to buildings clear and available to Government, Government's employees, and emergency vehicles at all times.
Do not use these areas for parking or storage of materials. Do not close or obstruct walkways, corridors, or other occupied or used facilities without written permission from Government.

1.6 WORK RESTRICTIONS
A. Smoking is permitted on campus only in the designated smoking area.
1.7 SCHEDULE OF ITEMS
A. Schedule of Items: The project Schedule of Items includes several sections to organize the work into Base Items and Optional Items.
1. Provide pricing for all items listed in the Schedule of Items.
2. Contract award will be made for all Base Items.
3. Optional Items will be awarded based on need and available funding.
B. Base Items (BI):
1. Base Item No. 1 – Student Activity Center Re-Roofing
b. Measurement: This item is measured as a Lump Sum quantity.
c. Payment: The contract lump sum price as shown in the Schedule of Items includes all materials, equipment, labor, and incidentals to replace mansard roofing shingles and damaged flashing.
C. Optional Items:
1. Optional Item No. 2- Carpentry/Painting Vocation Attic Ventilation
a. Measurement: This item is measured as a Lump Sum quantity.
b. Payment: The contract lump sum price as shown in the Schedule of Items includes all materials, equipment, labor, and incidentals to install attic ventilation components.
2. Optional Item No. 3 – Replace Roof Sheathing
a. Measurement: This item is measured as a Lump Sum quantity.
b. Payment: The contract lump sum price as shown in the Schedule of Items includes all materials, equipment, labor and incidentals to remove and replace existing roof sheathing on any of the following building: Student Activity Center. This item establishes the price per sheet.
PART 2 – SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES
2.1 DEFINITIONS
A. Action Submittals: Written and graphic information that requires Government approval.
B. Informational Submittals: Written information that does not require Government approval. Submittals may be rejected for not complying with requirements.

2.2 PROCEDURES
A. Contractor Responsibilities
1. Review each submittal and check for compliance with the Contract Documents.
2. Highlight, encircle, or otherwise identify deviations from the Contract Documents on submittals.
3. Include the following information on label or cover sheet for processing and recording action taken:
b. Project name.
c. Date.
d. Name and address of Contractor.
e. Name of manufacturer.
f. Unique identifier, including revision number.
g. Number and title of appropriate Specification Section.
h. Drawing number and detail references, as appropriate.
i. Date of Contractor’s approval.
j. Statement certifying that submittal has been reviewed, checked, and approved by the Contractor for compliance with the Contract Documents.
1. The Government will not review submittals that do not bear Contractor's approval and will return them without action.
2. Unless additional copies are required for final submittal, and unless the
Contracting Officer (CO) observes noncompliance with provisions of the Contract Documents, initial submittal may serve as final submittal.
3. Submittals must be submitted in electronic PDF format. Submit to CO via email or electronic file transfer site.
4. Only final submittals with mark indicating action taken by Government are to be used for construction.
5. Submittals not required by the Contract Documents will not be reviewed and may be discarded.
B. Processing Time: Time for review shall commence on CO's receipt of submittal.
1. Initial Review: Government will review initial submittal within 10 calendar days.
Additional time may be needed if processing must be delayed to permit coordination with subsequent submittals. CO will advise Contractor when a submittal being processed must be delayed for coordination.
2. Resubmittals: If resubmittal is necessary, it will be processed in same timeframe as initial submittal.
2.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS
A. Prepare and submit Action Submittals required in the Technical Specifications in this contract, if applicable, and as indicated at the end of this subsection.
B. Collect information into a single submittal for each element of construction and type of product or equipment.

1. Mark up each submittal to show which products and options are applicable.
2. Include the following information, as applicable:
b. Manufacturer's written recommendations.
c. Manufacturer's product specifications.

f. Wiring diagrams showing factory-installed wiring.
g. Compliance with recognized trade association standards.
h. Compliance with recognized testing agency standards.
C. Required Action Submittals

2.4 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS
A. Prepare and submit Informational Submittals required in the Technical Specifications in this contract, if applicable, and as indicated below:

2.5 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS
A. Prepare and submit Closeout Submittals, as follows:
1. As specified in Technical Specification sections.
2. Project record documents.
3. One-Year Warranty on Entire Project as required by FAR 52.246–21.
PART 3 – TEMPORARY FACILITIES AND CONTROLS
4.1 USE OF UTILITIES
A. Utilities: Use of Government existing facilities will be permitted without metering and without payment of use charges, as long as facilities are cleaned and maintained in an acceptable condition. At Substantial Completion, restore these facilities to condition existing before initial use. The following are available for use by the contractor: water, and electrical power services. The following are not available: telephone service. The contractor is expected to provide whatever phone service is deemed necessary for the duration of the project.
4.2 SANITARY FACILITIES

A. Sanitary facilities are available for use by the Contractor. Facilities must be cleaned and maintained daily.
4.3 STAGING AND STORAGE
A. Coordinate on-site staging and storage requirements with the Center Point of Contact or the Contracting Officer Representative (COR).
4.4 CONSTRUCTION WASTE DISPOSAL FACILITIES
A. Provide waste-collection containers in sizes adequate to handle waste from construction operations. Containerize and clearly label hazardous, dangerous, or unsanitary waste materials separately from other waste.
4.5 SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
A. Environmental Protection: Contractor shall provide protection, operate temporary facilities, and conduct construction in ways and by methods that comply with environmental regulations and that minimize possible air, waterway, and subsoil contamination or pollution or other undesirable effects.
B. Barricades, Warning Signs, and Lights: Comply with the national or state Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) for erecting structurally adequate barricades, paint with appropriate colors, graphics, and warning signs/lights to inform personnel, students, and the public of possible hazards.
C. Fire Protection.
1. Store combustible materials in containers in fire-safe locations.
2. Maintain unobstructed access to fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, fire-protection facilities, stairways, and other access routes for firefighting. Prohibit smoking in hazardous fire-exposure areas.
3. Supervise welding operations, combustion-type temporary heating units, and similar sources of fire ignition.
PART 4 – EXECUTION REQUIREMENTS
5.1 EXAMINATION
A. Before beginning work, examine areas and document existing conditions. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. Proceeding with the Work indicates acceptance of surfaces and conditions.
B. Field verify all new and existing dimensions affecting the work of this contract before ordering products.

C. Immediately on discovery of the need for clarification of the Contract Documents, submit a request for information to CO. Include a detailed description of problem encountered, together with recommendations for changing the Contract Documents.
5.2 INSTALLATION
A. Locate the Work and components of the Work accurately, in correct alignment and elevation to fit with existing construction.
B. Make vertical work plumb and make horizontal work level.
C. Install per manufacturer's written instructions and recommendations.
5.3 PROGRESS CLEANING
A. Clean Project site and work areas daily, including common areas. Dispose of materials lawfully.
1. Comply with NFPA 241 requirements for removal of combustible waste materials and debris.
2. Do not hold materials more than 7 days during normal weather or 3 days if the temperature is expected to rise above 80 deg F (27 deg C).
B. Burying or burning waste materials on-site will not be permitted. Washing waste materials down sewers or into waterways will not be permitted.
5.4 PROTECTION OF INSTALLED CONSTRUCTION
A. Provide protection and maintain conditions that ensure installed Work does not get damaged or deteriorated prior to Substantial Completion.
5.5 CORRECTION OF THE WORK
A. Repair or remove and replace defective construction. Restore damaged substrates and finishes.
1. Repairing includes replacing defective parts, refinishing damaged surfaces, touching up with matching materials, and properly adjusting operating equipment.
PART 5 – CLOSEOUT PROCEDURES
6.1 SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION
A. Definition of Substantial Completion: The Date certified by the CO when construction is sufficiently complete, in accordance with the Contract Documents, so the Government can occupy or utilize the Work or designated portion thereof for the use for which it is intended, as expressed in the Contract Documents.

B. Preliminary Procedures: Before requesting inspection for determining date of Substantial Completion, complete the following. List items below that are incomplete in request.
1. Prepare a list of items to be completed and corrected (punch list), the value of items on the list, and reasons why the Work is not complete.
2. Advise the CO of pending insurance changeover requirements.
3. Submit specific warranties, workmanship bonds, final certifications, and similar documents.
4. Obtain and submit releases permitting Government unrestricted use of the Work and access to services and utilities.
5. Deliver tools, spare parts, extra materials, and similar items to location designated by Government. Label with manufacturer's name and model number where applicable.
6. Complete startup testing of systems.
7. Submit changeover information related to Government occupancy, use, operation, and maintenance.
8. Complete final cleaning requirements, including touchup painting.
9. Touch up and otherwise repair and restore marred exposed finishes to eliminate visual defects.
C. Inspection: Submit a written request for inspection for Substantial Completion. On receipt of request, CO will either proceed with inspection or notify Contractor of unfulfilled requirements. CO will prepare the Certificate of Substantial Completion after inspection or will notify Contractor of items, either on Contractor's list or additional items identified by CO, that must be completed or corrected before certificate will be issued.
1. Reinspection: Request reinspection when the Work identified in previous inspections as incomplete is completed or corrected.
2. Results of completed inspection will form the basis of requirements for Final
Completion.
6.2 FINAL COMPLETION
A. Preliminary Procedures: Before requesting final inspection for determining date of Final Completion, complete the following:
1. Submit certified copy of CO’s Substantial Completion inspection list of items to be completed or corrected (punch list), endorsed and dated by CO. The certified copy of the list shall state that each item has been completed or otherwise resolved for acceptance.
2. Submit evidence of final, continuing insurance coverage complying with insurance requirements.
3. Instruct Government personnel in operation, adjustment, and maintenance of products, equipment, and systems.

B. Inspection: Submit a written request for final inspection for acceptance. On receipt of request, CO will either proceed with inspection or notify Contractor of unfulfilled requirements. CO will prepare a final Certificate for Payment after inspection or will notify Contractor of construction that must be completed or corrected before certificate will be issued.
1. Reinspection: Request reinspection when the Work identified in previous inspections as incomplete is completed or corrected.
6.3 LIST OF INCOMPLETE ITEMS (PUNCH LIST)
A. Preparation: Submit two copies of list. Include name and identification of each space and area affected by construction operations for incomplete items and items needing correction including, if necessary, areas disturbed by Contractor that are outside the limits of construction.
6.4 FINAL CLEANING
A. General: Provide final cleaning. Conduct cleaning and waste-removal operations to comply with local laws and ordinances and Federal and local environmental and antipollution regulations.
B. Cleaning Agents: Use cleaning materials and agents recommended by manufacturer or fabricator of the surface to be cleaned. Do not use cleaning agents that are potentially hazardous to health or property or that might damage finished surfaces.
C. Complete the following cleaning operations before requesting inspection for certification of Substantial Completion for entire Project or for a portion of Project:
1. Clean Project site, yard, and grounds, in areas disturbed by construction activities, including landscape development areas, of rubbish, waste material, litter, and other foreign substances.
2. Remove tools, construction equipment, machinery, and surplus material from Project site.
3. Touch up and otherwise repair and restore marred, exposed finishes and surfaces.
Replace finishes and surfaces that cannot be satisfactorily repaired or restored or that already show evidence of repair or restoration.
D. Remove waste materials from Project site and dispose of lawfully.

1.3 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

2.5 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS
A. Adhesives for Field Gluing Panels to Framing: Formulation complying with ASTM D 3498 that is approved for use indicated by manufacturers of both adhesives and panels.
1. Use adhesives that have a VOC content of 70g/L or less when calculated accord-ing to 40 CFR 59, Subpart D (EPA Method 24).
PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION, GENERAL
A. Securely attach to substrate by fastening as indicated, complying with the following:
1. NES NER-272 for power-driven fasteners.
2. Table 2304.9.1, "Fastening Schedule," in ICC's "International Building Code."
B. Coordinate sheathing installation with flashing and joint-sealant installation so these materials are installed in sequence and manner that exclude exterior moisture.
C. Do not bridge building expansion joints; cut and space edges of panels to match spac-ing of structural support elements.
3.2 WOOD STRUCTURAL PANEL INSTALLATION
A. General: Comply with applicable recommendations in APA Form No. E30K, "APA Design/Construction Guide: Residential & Commercial."

1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Source Limitations: Obtain ridge shingles and ridge vents through one source from a single asphalt shingle manufacturer.
B. Exterior Fire-Test Exposure: Class A; ASTM E 108 or UL 790, for application and roof slopes indicated. Fire-Test-Response Characteristics: Provide asphalt shingle and related roofing materials with the fire-test-response characteristics indicated, as determined by testing identical products per test method below by UL or another test-ing and inspecting agency acceptable to the CO. Identify materials with appropriate markings of applicable testing and inspecting agency.
1. Exterior Fire-Test Exposure: Class A; ASTM E 108 or UL 790, for application and roof slopes indicated.
1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store roofing materials in a dry, well-ventilated, weathertight location according to as-phalt shingle manufacturer’s written instructions. Store underlayment rolls on end on pallets or other raised surfaces. Do not double-stack rolls.
1. Handle, store, and place roofing materials in a manner to avoid significant or permanent damage to roof deck or structural supporting members.
1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Weather Limitations: Proceed with installation only when existing and forecasted weather conditions permit asphalt shingle roofing to be performed according to manu-facturers’ written instructions and warranty requirements.
1.9 WARRANTIES
A. Warranty Periods:
1. Ridge Shingles:
a. 40 year limited commercial warranty.
b. Wind Resistance: 15 year, 130 MPH limited warranty.
c. Algae Resistance: 10 year limited warranty.
2. Continuous Asphalt Ridge Vent:
a. 50 year limited.
1.10 EXTRA MATERIALS
A. Furnish extra materials described below that match products installed, are packaged with protective covering for storage, and are identified with labels describing contents.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine substrate, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerance and other conditions affecting performance of work.
1. Examine roof sheathing to verify that sheathing joints are supported by framing and blocking or metal clips and that installation is within flatness tolerances.
2. Verify that substrate is sound, dry, smooth clean, sloped for drainage, and com-pletely anchored; and that provision has been made for flashing and penetrations through asphalt shingles.
B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 ROOF VENT INSTALLATION
A. Continuous Ridge Vents: Install in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Cut back existing sheathing to provide proper airflow through vents. Install manufactur-er’s end caps at each end.
3.3 ASPHALT SHINGLE INSTALLATION
A. Install asphalt shingles according to manufacturer's written instructions, recommenda-tions in ARMA's "Residential Asphalt Roofing Manual," and asphalt shingle recom-mendations in NRCA's "The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual."
B. Ridge Shingles: Maintain same exposure of ridge shingles as roofing shingle expo-sure. Lap cap shingles at ridges to shed water away from direction of prevailing winds. Install on top of ridge vent.

PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes factory-formed and field-assembled, metal roof panels.
B. See Division 7 Section "Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim".
1.2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Wind-Uplift Resistance: Comply with UL 580 for wind-uplift resistance class.
B. Structural Performance: Capable of withstanding the effects of gravity loads and the wind and snow loads for the location in accordance with the International Building Code and the state of Kentucky amendments based on testing according to ASTM E 1592. Comply with the following loads and stresses unless code requirements are greater:
1. Wind Loads: follow ASCE 7, latest version, for project location.
2. Snow Loads: follow ASCE 7, latest version, for project location.
3. Deflection Limits: Vertical deflections no greater than 1/240 of the span.
C. Seismic Performance: Provide metal roof panel assemblies capable of withstanding the effects of earthquake motions determined according to ASCE 7, "Minimum De-sign Loads for Buildings and Other Structures": Section 9, "Earthquake Loads.”
D. Energy Performance: Provide roof panels with solar reflectance index not less than 29 when calculated according to ASTM E 1980 based on testing identical products by a qualified testing agency.
E. Energy Performance: Provide roof panels that are listed on the U.S. Department of Energy's ENERGY STAR Roof Products Qualified Product List for steep-slope roof products.
F. Energy Performance: Provide roof panels with initial solar reflectance not less than
0.25 and emissivity not less than 0.75 when tested according to CRRC-1.
1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Roof Installer Qualifications: The roofing installer shall be approved and authorized by Roofing System Manufacturer to install manufacturer’s product.

1. Provide shop drawings drawn to scale and coordinating metal roof panel instal-lation with penetrations, flashing, and roof-mounted items. Include manufac-turer’s details addressing each type of trim and flashing condition encountered for the project.
2. Provide layout and standard detail drawing showing locations of all snow guard components including clamps and clamp spacing.
3. Include all pertinent design information such as wind load value, snow load value, etc.
C. Samples: Provide color samples for each exposed finish.

a. Special Warranty on Panels: Manufacturer's standard form in which man-ufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of metal roof panel as-semblies that fail in materials or workmanship within five (5) years from date of Substantial Completion.
1) Failures include, but are not limited to, the following:
a) Structural failures, including rupturing, cracking, or puncturing.
b) Deterioration of metals, metal finishes, and other materials be-yond normal weathering.
b. Special Warranty on Panel Finishes: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair finish or replace metal roof panels that show evidence of deterioration of factory-applied finishes within 20 years from date of Substantial Completion.
c. Special Warranty on Roofing System: A 20-year Roofing System NDL warranty is required from the roofing system manufacturer. System is

defined as the complete roof, including substrate, underlayment, flashing, including penetrations, valleys, fasteners, and roofing panels. The Contractor will be responsible to accommodate any removal and reinstallation of incidental materials which must be removed and rein-stalled due to the construction of the new roofs. All work shall be accom-plished in accordance with the Metal Construction Association (MCA) recommendations

b) Date of Substantial Completion (warranty commencement date) & Warranty Expiration Date

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 PANEL MATERIALS
A. Metallic-Coated Steel Sheet Prepainted with Coil Coating: Steel sheet metallic coated by the hot-dip process and prepainted by the coil-coating process to comply with
ASTM A 755/A 755M.
1. Aluminum-Zinc Alloy-Coated Steel Sheet: ASTM A 792/A 792M, Class AZ50 coating designation, Grade 40 (Class AZM150 coating designation, Grade 275);
structural quality.
2. Surface: Smooth, flat finish.
3. Exposed Finishes: Two-coat, thermo-cured system with fluoropolymer coats containing not less than 70 percent polyvinylidene fluoride resin by weight;
complying with physical properties and coating performance requirements of AAMA 2604, except as modified below:
1) Humidity Resistance: 1000 hours.
2) Water Resistance: 1000 hours.
4. Concealed Finish: White or light-colored acrylic or polyester backer finish.

3. Butyl-Rubber-Based, Solvent-Release Sealant: ASTM C 1311.
2.2 UNDERLAYMENT MATERIALS
A. Felts: ASTM D 226, Type II (No 30), asphalt-saturated organic felts.
B. Self-Adhering, High-Temperature Sheet: 40 mils (1.0 mm) thick minimum, consisting of slip-resisting polyethylene-film top surface laminated to layer of butyl or SBS-modified asphalt adhesive, with release-paper backing; cold applied. Provide primer when recommended by underlayment manufacturer.
C. Slip Sheet: Building paper, minimum 5 lb/100 sq. ft., rosin sized.
2.3 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS
A. Fasteners: Self-tapping screws, bolts, nuts, self-locking rivets and bolts, end-welded studs, and other suitable fasteners designed to withstand design loads. Provide ex-posed fasteners with heads matching color of metal roof panels by means of plastic caps or factory-applied coating.
1. Fasteners for Flashing and Trim: Blind fasteners or self-drilling screws with hex washer head.
2. Blind Fasteners: High-strength aluminum or stainless-steel rivets.
B. Bituminous Coating: Cold-applied asphalt mastic, SSPC-Paint 12, compounded for 15-mil (0.4-mm) dry film thickness per coat. Provide inert-type noncorrosive com-pound free of asbestos fibers, sulfur components, and other deleterious impurities.
2.4 METAL ROOF PANELS
A. Standing-Seam Metal Roof Panels: Factory-formed, designed to be field assembled by lapping and interconnecting raised side edges of adjacent panels with joint type in-dicated and mechanically attaching panels to supports using concealed clips inside laps. Include clips, cleats, pressure plates, and accessories required for weathertight installation.
1. Steel Panel Systems: Comply with ASTM E 1514.
B. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide McElroy Maxima, or a comparable product that meets the following specifications.
1. Type: Vertical rib, mechanically seamed, or snap joint.
2. Material: Metallic-coated steel sheet, 24 gauge.

2.5 ACCESSORIES
A. Roof Panel Accessories: Provide components required for a complete metal roof panel assembly including trim, copings, fascia, corner units, ridge closures, clips, flashings, sealants, gaskets, fillers, closure strips, and similar items. Match material and finish of metal roof panels, unless otherwise indicated.
1. Closures: Provide closures at eaves and ridges, fabricated of same metal as metal roof panels.
2. Clips: Minimum 0.0625-inch-thick, stainless steel panel clips designed to with-stand negative-load requirements.
3. Cleats: Mechanically seamed cleats formed from minimum 0.0250-inch-thick, stainless steel or nylon-coated aluminum sheet.
4. Closure Strips: Closed-cell, expanded, cellular, rubber or crosslinked, polyole-fin-foam or closed-cell laminated polyethylene; minimum 1-inch- (25-mm-) thick, flexible closure strips; cut or premolded to match metal roof panel profile.
Provide closure strips where indicated or necessary to ensure weathertight con-struction.
B. Flashing and Trim: Formed from 0.0179-inch-thick, metallic-coated steel sheet. Pro-vide flashing and trim as required to seal against weather and to provide finished ap-pearance. Locations include eaves, rakes, corners, bases, framed openings, ridges, fas-cia, and fillers. Finish flashing and trim with the same finishes as adjacent metal roof panels.
2.6 FABRICATION
A. General: Fabricate and finish metal roof panels and accessories at the factory to great-est extent possible, by manufacturer's standard procedures and processes, as necessary to fulfill indicated performance requirements demonstrated by laboratory testing.
Comply with indicated profiles and with dimensional and structural requirements.
B. Provide panel profile, including major ribs and intermediate stiffening ribs, if any, for full length of panel.
C. Where indicated, fabricate metal roof panel joints with factory-installed captive gas-kets or separator strips that provide a tight seal and prevent metal-to-metal contact, in a manner that will minimize noise from movements within panel assembly.

D. Sheet Metal Accessories: Fabricate flashing and trim to comply with recommenda-tions in SMACNA's "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual" that apply to the design, di-mensions, metal, and other characteristics of item indicated.
E. Protect mechanical and painted finishes on exposed surfaces from damage by applying a strippable, temporary protective covering before shipping.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION
A. Install flashings and other sheet metal to comply with requirements specified in Divi-sion 7 Section "Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim."
3.2 UNDERLAYMENT INSTALLATION
A. Self-Adhering Sheet Underlayment: Install self-adhering sheet underlayment, wrinkle free, to roof substrate. Comply with temperature restrictions of underlayment manu-facturer for installation; use primer rather than nails for installing underlayment at low temperatures. Apply in shingle fashion to shed water, with end laps of not less than 6 inches staggered 24 inches between courses. Overlap side edges not less than 3-1/2 inches. Extend underlayment into gutter trough. Roll laps with roller.
B. Felt Underlayment: Install felt underlayment over entire roof deck including self-ad-hering sheet underlayment. Use adhesive for temporary anchorage. Apply in shingle fashion to shed water, with lapped joints of not less than 2 inches.
C. Slip-Sheet: Apply slip-sheet over felt underlayment and on top of self-adhering un-derlayment before installing metal roof panels.
D. Cover underlayment within 14 days.
3.3 METAL ROOF PANEL INSTALLATION, GENERAL
A. General: Provide metal roof panels of full length from eave to ridge, unless otherwise indicated or restricted by shipping limitations. Anchor metal roof panels and other components of the Work securely in place, with provisions for thermal and structural movement.
1. Field cutting of metal roof panels by torch is not permitted.
2. Rigidly fasten eave end of metal roof panels and allow ridge end free movement due to thermal expansion and contraction. Predrill panels.
3. Provide metal closures at peaks, rake edges, rake walls and each side of ridge and hip caps.
4. Flash and seal metal roof panels with weather closures at eaves, rakes, and at pe-rimeter of all openings. Fasten with self-tapping screws.
5. Locate panel splices over, but not attached to, structural supports. Stagger panel splices and end laps to avoid a four-panel lap splice condition.

6. Lap metal flashing over metal roof panels to allow moisture to run over and off the material.
7. Install roof panels such that the wind blows over the lap side joints and not into the side lap joints.
B. Fasteners: Use stainless-steel fasteners for surfaces exposed to the exterior and galva-nized steel fasteners for surfaces exposed to the interior.
C. Metal Protection: Where dissimilar metals will contact each other or corrosive sub-strates, protect against galvanic action by painting contact surfaces with bituminous coating, by applying rubberized-asphalt underlayment to each contact surface, or by other permanent separation as recommended by metal roof panel manufacturer.
1. Coat back side of aluminum roof panels with bituminous coating where roof panels will contact wood, ferrous metal, or cementitious construction.
D. Joint Sealers: Install gaskets, joint fillers, and sealants where required for weather-proof performance of metal roof panel assemblies.
1. Seal metal roof panel end laps with double beads of tape or sealant, full width of panel. Seal side joints where recommended by metal roof panel manufacturer.
3.4 FIELD-ASSEMBLED METAL ROOF PANEL INSTALLATION
A. Standing-Seam Metal Roof Panels: Fasten metal roof panels to supports with con-cealed clips at each standing-seam joint at location, spacing, and with fasteners recom-mended by manufacturer.
1. Install clips to supports with self-tapping fasteners.
2. Mechanically Seamed: Comply with manufacturer’s product data, recommen-dations, and installation instructions.
3. Snap Joint: Nest standing seams and fastens together by interlocking and com-pletely engaging factory-applied sealant.
3.5 ACCESSORY INSTALLATION
A. General: Install accessories with positive anchorage to building and weathertight mounting and provide for thermal expansion. Coordinate installation with flashings and other components.
1. Install components required for a complete metal roof panel assembly including trim, copings, ridge closures, seam covers, flashings, sealants, gaskets, fillers, closure strips, and similar items.
2. Comply with performance requirements, manufacturer's written installation in-structions, and SMACNA's "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual." Provide con-cealed fasteners where possible, and set units true to line and level. Install work with laps, joints, and seams that will be permanently watertight and weather re-sistant.

3.6 CLEANING AND PROTECTION

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. General: Sheet metal flashing and trim assemblies shall withstand wind loads, structural movement, thermally induced movement, and exposure to weather without failure due to defective manufacture, fabrication, installation, or other defects in construction.
Completed sheet metal flashing and trim shall not rattle, leak, or loosen, and shall remain watertight.
B. Sheet Metal Standard for Flashing and Trim: Comply with NRCA's "The NRCA Roofing Manual" and SMACNA's "Architectural Sheet Metal Manual" requirements for dimensions and profiles shown unless more stringent requirements are indicated.
C. Recycled Content of Steel-Sheet Flashing and Trim: Postconsumer recycled content plus one-half of preconsumer recycled content not less than 25 percent.

2.4 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS
