127EAX26R0001 Coconino NF FSR 535/536 Road Reconditioning Q&A #2

1. Will the contractor be required to utilize a rock crusher for the road aggregate or will the material at the Forest Service pit be suitable to use as pit run?

A: Pit run material will not be available at the FS pit, however the road aggregate will be. A rock crusher is not necessary for road aggregate generation.

2. Do you have any site maps of the location of this project?

A: Site maps can be found in the plans included in the solicitation. (Site map pg 42-44 of Adobe solicitation doc labeled 127EAX26R0001)

3. What are the sizes of the culverts that are needing to be replaced?

A: As outline in the SOI, the sizes of the culverts are 18”, 24”, and 30”. Culvert lengths listed in the SOI are approximant and actual lengths of the culverts should be field verified prior to purchase.

4. Will the Forest Service require independent compaction testing or third-party special inspections, or will compliance be based on specified compaction methods and Government inspection?

A: No, third-party testing is not required. Compliance will be based methods outlined in the SOI and verified by government inspection.

5. Will the Forest Service provide the culverts or will they have to be purchased by the contractor?

A: No. FS will not be providing the culverts.

6. Will water be required for processing the aggregate? If so, where is the closest water source?

A: Surface course aggregate will be sourced from FS pit and does not require additional processing. If water is deemed necessary, the closest water source is in Flagstaff.

7. Can road aggregate be used for bedding the culverts?

A: No. Surface course aggregate does not meet the specifications for bedding material. Bedding material is incidental to culvert installations; no additional payment will be made for bedding material. Backfill material is a separate pay item and surface course aggregate shall not be used as backfill.

8. Will turnarounds be allowed along the project route for use by trucks?

A: Turn arounds are permitted in pre-disturbed areas, however contractor will be required to repair any damage caused by contract activities to FS land at no additional cost. Site visits are recommended due to tight turns and sustained slopes.
