About this file

This document is a set of Questions and Answers related to a federal contract opportunity. The key details are:

The requirement for a rubber track excavator is not feasible, as this is a rare piece of equipment with high ground pressure. Instead, the agency indicates that rubber wheeled excavators with mats can be used to walk across the site access route.

The related federal contract opportunity is for the Montgomery Meadow Fuels Reduction project, solicitation number 127EAS24Q0040-1, issued by the Department of Agriculture Forest Service. This project entails hand felling and machine/hand piling of standing dead and down conifers outside of Montgomery Meadows for the Stanislaus National Forest. The full details are provided in the attached Request for Quote.

Questions & Answers Part 2

1) With all do respect, the requirement for rubber track excavator doesn't make sense. First off, this is a very rare piece of equipment (there aren't any in the surrounding area).

Secondly, a rubber wheeled excavator will exert considerably more ground psi than a rubber track. Maybe as much as 10 times. After speaking with the Archaeologists about the equipment requirement, you can use mats to walk across the site area if you are using a rubber track piece of equipment. The mats are only needed to walk equipment along the access route, if using rubber track equipment.
